    Major Duties

    • Performs preventative maintenance on material handling equipment.
    • Performs repairs to material handling equipment and other industrial warehousing equipment.
    • Performs repairs to both electrical and mechanical components.
    • Performs inspections and troubleshooting repairs.
    • Evaluates and diagnose reported equipment failures.
    • Identifies and the nature, extent and operational impact of equipment failure.
    • Applies knowledge of tools and equipment to assist determining cause of malfunction.

    Qualification Summary

    Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort The work requires lifting, carrying, pulling, steadying, and moving parts and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Workers are required to push, pull, reach, walk, stand, crawl, kneel, bend and work in cramped positions over and under machinery and equipment of all types for sustained periods of time. Working Conditions Work is performed under varying shop and field conditions involving exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, hot, cold and damp surfaces and environments. Frequently exposed to abrasions, cuts, burns, shock, broken bones, slips, falls, or other serious injury from moving parts and equipment, high voltage components, machinery and equipment. Uses various protective crevices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, and glasses as required by the environment where duties are being performed.
