    Major Duties

    • Provides leadership to a variety of trades and labor work in support of roads and grounds maintenance at a large installation.
    • Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to engineering equipment operation, carpentry or maintenance mechanic work.
    • Performs duties in support of HAZMAT/hazardous waste accumulation and disposal.
    • Serves as a Motor Vehicle Operator responsible for operating gasoline or diesel powered trucks or truck-tractors with trailer or semi-trailer.
    • Operates various types of equipment to assist in the maintenance and repair of the depot roads and parking areas.

    Qualification Summary

    Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: Ability to Lead Instruct other workers on less complex work methods; refer to manuals as a means in answering questions related to the duties and responsibilities of the position; and adhere to all safety standards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort Works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent standing, bending, crouching, kneeling and climbing. May work on ladder, scaffolds or platforms and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard to reach places. Frequently lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally items weighing more with assistance of material lifting devices or other workers. Working Conditions Work is performed mainly outside with exposure to wide variations in weather and temperature. Incumbent is exposed to potential injury from power tools and danger from flying objects, cuts and scrapes, is expose to traffic hazards while driving on both improved and unimproved road surfaces. May occasionally make repairs when noxious fumes are present. There is exposure to insect, spider and snakebites.
