    Major Duties

    • Serves as a public affairs specialist in the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Public Affairs Office with the responsibility for creating and executing public affairs products.
    • Analyzes and evaluates MSC internal/command information needs and responses to Department of Defense (DoD) and DLA requirements.
    • Recommend actions for information and community relations implications of internally oriented information efforts. Monitors national news coverage of DLA and periodically provides formal report of relevant articles.
    • Executes internal information campaigns and uses initiative to identify opportunities to support team activities and goals.
    • Edits articles and social media posts to ensure consistency with command policy, correctness of grammar and spelling, and readability.
    • Assesses national and local journalistic programs that may prove beneficial to the Public Affairs Director for professional development.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a Public Affairs Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Creditable specialized experience must have been acquired in a federal, military, or law enforcement environment requiring formal credentialing or graduation from an accredited federal or military counterintelligence academy. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Developing written materials such as news releases, public affairs plans, feature stories, fact sheets, speeches, and scripts. Strategizing content for and effectively using social media platforms. Editing copy submitted for publication in agency's communication platforms. Analyzing and developing recommendations from a wide array of conflicting and divergent input from Agency staff offices, DoD, and other federal agencies. Making oral presentations at meetings designed to obtain a consensus position among divergent viewpoints. Presenting written ideas in original ways to obtain understanding among internal and external publics. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
