    Major Duties

    • Responsible for security actions spanning all security disciplines, to include resolution of complex security matters supporting operational activities.
    • Develops, establishes, interprets, coordinates, implements multidiscipline security policy in support of management of the day-to-day operations of the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) and Special Access Program Facility (SAPF).
    • Processes incoming and outgoing visit certifications, initiates background investigations, conducts indoctrinations and debriefings, and all other personnel security requirements for personnel assigned to their site.
    • Provides technical advice and assistance to directors regarding multidiscipline security matters within their respective areas of responsibility.
    • Conducts preliminary inquiries, develops reports, and recommends corrective security actions as required.
    • Builds and maintains contacts with high-level managers within the organization, DoD, the OSD, Joint Staff and personnel of other Federal Agencies and private industry.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a Security Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Incorporates and disseminates requirements in regulations, memoranda and policy guidance based upon Executive Orders, Presidential Decision Directives (PDDs), Congressional mandates, DNI directives and standards derived from the DoD, Joint Staff, Defense Intelligence Agencies (DIA), and the Services. Provides technical advice and assistance to directors regarding multidiscipline security matters within their respective areas of responsibility. Provides technical guidance to personnel to ensure adequate protection of personnel and resources, recommends appropriate protection measures and provides data for implementation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
