    Major Duties

    • Develops and implements modifications on computer-controlled material handling systems, components and related communication and data processing support system, as well as various input output devices to include variable frequency drives.
    • Keeps up to date with current versions of PLC software and catalog current PLC programs distribution center wide.
    • Understands and plans implementation of Human/Machine Interface (HMI) and visualization dashboards to integrate all PLCs for production and downtime tracking.
    • Oversees the maintenance of electronic systems, sub-systems and components with numerous remote units whose functions must be coordinated by use of interlocking signals, Ethernet IP, bus communications and other industrial network protocols.
    • Writes, modifies, and edits programmable controller programs, including data file management, creating Add On Instructions (AOI), program tags, arrays, and other high order programmable controller functions.

    Qualification Summary

    Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: I assist with planning and organizing work activities for employees. Examples Include: Advise supervisor of problems involving disciplinary actions and counseling on conduct; set goals and deadlines for accomplishing work; and give instructions to employees on work procedures and safety Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: Work requires standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and sitting for extended periods of time working in cramped and/or awkward positions. Lifts items weighing from 15 to 50 pounds and carries for short distances. Working Conditions: Work is performed under shop conditions in an adequately lighted, heated and ventilated warehouse. Subject to loud noises, heat, cold, fumes, dirt, grease and the possibility of cuts, bruises, and injury when using tools and testing equipment. There is the hazard of electrical shock and bums from high voltage currents. Incumbent may be required to work outdoors.
