    Major Duties

    • Serves as the Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist and as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Site Coordinator.
    • Administers the Safety and Occupational Health program for organizations engaged in warehousing operations, transportation of materials, equipment repair, and maintenance in administrative areas.
    • Develops and maintains site-specific VPP program documentation, reports, and continuous safety improvements.
    • Initiates and develops plans of action to ensure each stage of the VPP is completed and maintained as required by OSHA.
    • Tracks the impact of reduced mishaps, reported hazards, and employee complaints.
    • Works with safety staff, supervisors, union personnel, and office staff to improve work processes that reflect the VPP requirements.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Manages a safety and occupational health program Applies safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Develops safety and occupational health standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards. Advises higher levels of management on safety and occupational health policy Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
