    Major Duties

    • Responsible for supervising staff of Transportation Assistants assigned to the truck control function.
    • Responsible for the effective, efficient, economical, and timely completion of the truck control operation in support of depot Operations.
    • Plans work to be accomplished, sets priorities, and evaluates work performance of subordinate personnel.
    • Monitors Transportation Control Movement Documents (TCMDs), advance releases and release transfer and movement in terms of the movement unit plan bulk material release orders.
    • Reviews, approves, and adjusts advanced and current planning and scheduling of transportation units formed from analyses of impending and actual workload and off-depot shipping routes and transportation service requirements.
    • Furnishes guidance and assistance for special requirements, unusual situations, and when exceptions to existing guidelines occur.
    • Keeps staff abreast of changes in policies and regulations and determines effects on overall work operations.
    • Trains and cross trains employees in procedures of preplanning, scheduling, classifying, and rating of shipments.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a Supervisory Transportation Assistant, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Analyzing and planning workload data, recommending priorities and distribution of resources including labor and equipment for assigned organizational areas Providing traffic management oversight on transportation and traffic management matters Planning and directing the work of operation and supervises general schedule employees performing a variety of technical duties B. Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
