    Major Duties

    • Schedules and coordinates carrier pick-up and delivery of freight.
    • Prepares a variety of shipping history and status report and logs.
    • Performs call backs to commercial container lines with follow-ups to ensure containers are picked up and moved to the ports to meet scheduled sailings.
    • Coordinates a variety of administrative duties essential to the management of the transportation office.
    • Provides administrative support and assistance to the staff within the Transportation Operations Division.
    • Prepares reports and coordinates freight shipments and transportation support functions.
    • Uses a variety of office automation technology to accomplish assignments.
    • Completes, verifies, and processes all documentation associated with the shipments

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a Transportation Assistant your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-05 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Schedule and coordinate pick-up and delivery of freight - Prepare shipping and receiving documents Prepare reports and forms Coordinate movement of inbound and outbound trailers and seavans. B. Education Substitution: Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Education must be from a college or university accredited by an organization approved by the U.S. Department of Education. See http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx. If using education to meet basic qualifications, YOU MUST SUBMIT A TRANSCRIPT as supplemental documentation. To qualify based on education in lieu of specialized experience, you must possess 4 years of progressively higher education above the high school level from and accredited college or university. C. Combination: For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year} is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
