    Major Duties

    • Accomplishing transportation assistant functions and miscellaneous transportation support functions.
    • Processing documents for the shipment of freight, Less-Than-Truck Load (LTL), and Dedicated Truck (DTK), and Air Line Communications (ALOC)/air documents.
    • Providing assistance with the freight rating and classification process.
    • Initiating requests to Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC).
    • Processing cancellation requests, researching and resolving shipping discrepancies, and preparing routine reports to document shipping activities.

    Qualification Summary

    A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Resolves a wide range of shipping problems by applying and interpreting an extensive body of transportation regulations to ensure the accurate, timely shipment of freight by rail, truck, air, or water. Operates automated transportation systems to input, retrieve, and reconcile shipping data. Applies transportation regulations, formats, and terminology to correctly process and document the movement of a wide variety of specialized shipments. Arranges and directs the use of specialized procedures, such as temperature-controlled storage, signature required delivery, and proper hazardous material packing and certification. B. Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
