    Major Duties

    • Responsible for planning, designing, managing, and disseminating visual products, such as magazine layout, brochures, new media products (including Flash animations) and web design, to communicate the Agency messages consistent with DoD policy.
    • Provides graphic design, illustration, still photographic services, either through in-house, or contract services, for use in presentations, printed materials, and exhibits to communicate the Agency mission.
    • Communicates directly with printers and contractors during all phases of production of visual media.
    • Serves as consultant and liaison to senior managers and program managers providing advanced technical information and creative advice and guidance.
    • Oversees design of exhibit/exposition display, including three-dimensional effects and two-dimensional photographs, murals, illustrations, and paintings and utilizing mounting, lighting, and audio to attract and retain interest of the audience.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a Visual Information Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: - Knowledge and skill in layout and design of magazines, brochures, web pages and other multimedia public affair products. - Exercise independent judgement, ingenuity, initiative, creative originality, and has a working knowledge of a multimedia division mission. - Provide a wide variety of visual information products and services covering the fields of graphics, exhibits, and photography that support the mission of an agency. - Exercise administrative and technical supervisory authorities over a subordinate staff, including contractors. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
