Electrical Engineer – Sterilization Operations
Location: Spartanburg, SC (Onsite)

Kelaca is partnering with a client in Spartanburg, SC to hire an experienced Electrical Engineer to support an in-house sterilization capability built around advanced irradiation equipment. This role is for an engineer who will become the subject matter expert for that equipment — making sure it runs safely, reliably, and consistently so products are processed right the first time.
The Opportunity
Help stand up and run a new, in-house electron-beam sterilization line. You’ll be the go-to electrical/controls expertwho keeps complex irradiation and material-handling equipment running safely, reliably, and efficiently—while partnering with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and Safety.
Impact You’ll Own
- Turn a sophisticated e-beam sterilization system into a dependable production asset.
- Configure and optimize SCADA-based production orders to meet strict quality and regulatory expectations.
- Drive uptime, throughput, and right-first-time processing through robust process controls and fast, methodicaltroubleshooting.
What You’ll Do
Sterilization operations & process control
- Set up/adjust daily production orders for sterilization and conveyors in SCADA.
- Confi gure dosimetry, process parameters, and equipment settings to achieve validated sterilization levels.
- Monitor trends and process data; identify deviations and drive corrective actions.
Technical ownership
- Serve as SME for the electron-beam accelerator and conveyor systems.
- Maintain electrical/controls documentation and change control.
- Diagnose complex faults using appropriate tools (e.g., multimeter, oscilloscope) and support the maintenance team on tough issues.
Quality, regulatory & safety
- Operate with a safety-first mindset; comply with EH&S and radiation safety requirements.
- Support ISO 9001 certification and sterilization-relevant standards (e.g., ISO 11137, ISO/ASTM 51261).
- Partner with Quality Engineering on investigations and CAPAs.
Improvement & projects
- Lead/execute equipment and process improvement initiatives to increase reliability and throughput.
- Manage projects with suppliers/contractors from concept through implementation.
- Track emerging e-beam/x-ray technologies and apply relevant upgrades.
Cross-functional partnership
- Collaborate daily with Operations on planning and operator support.
- Align with Supply Chain to meet demand/lead-time targets.
- Provide technical input to R&D/NPD for trials and process changes.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
- Extensive experience in industrial/manufacturing electrical & controls roles within regulated environments.
- Hands-on commissioning, configuration, and troubleshooting of complex automation/controls systems.
- Proficiency with SCADA and familiarity with ERP/enterprise systems for production data.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001; experience with sterilization standards (ISO 11137, ISO/ASTM 51261) is a strongplus.
- Solid project management skills across installation, validation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Nice to Have
- Experience with high-energy irradiation systems (electron-beam or X-ray) in controlled environments.
- Background in nuclear/defense or other safety-critical systems.
Operating Environment
- Onsite in a highly regulated manufacturing setting; split time between control room/office and plant floor.
- Standard daytime hours with fl exibility for commissioning, planned maintenance, and critical issue resolution.
