    Kelaca is seeking a Software Engineer-Modeling & Simulation Application Developer Consultant to work in a Hybrid capacity for a long-term engagement with our client partner in Raleigh, NC. We are actively seeking a qualified software engineer who will support their growing business in modeling and simulation of physical phenomena within a 3D geometric modeling environment that is linked to a geographic information system (GIS). They apply traditional physical modeling approaches as well as deep learning and computer vision techniques to solve critical problems. As a member of their diverse multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for developing software tools that strengthen our national security. Our client is an Agile team of computer scientists, engineers, and cloud engineers developing simulation tools that support real-world planning operations for the Department of Defense.

    You will be a key member of a cross-disciplinary team that is developing technologies to support real-world planning operations. The collaborative team of engineers and scientists researching and developing these technologies are part of the employee-owned international research and engineering company. Our client is recognized for providing technically superior solutions to complex and challenging problems in the physical sciences.

    Their technology stack evolves, but the main skills they use today include Rust, Python, Typescript, WASM, modern C++, Kubernetes, and Angular. Their ecosystem of tools includes GitLab, Linux, Visual Studio Code, the Atlassian tools (i.e. JIRA, Bitbucket, and Confluence), and TeamCity. At the end of the day, they work to find the best way to deliver useful products to their end users. The teams retain a mindset that is open to change and improvement.

    The most successful candidates have a strong background in computer science, with experience in software architecture, algorithms, data structures, design patterns, API design, UX design, and/or test-driven development. They have a desire to continue expanding their knowledge. Additional expertise in science and engineering disciplines is also valued.

    • You will develop the front-end and back-end libraries that comprise the application and you’ll become familiar with unique research areas like weapons effects, structural response, and the targeting process.
    • As a research and development program, the nature of our work varies from month to month and year to year: You will be continuously challenged to learn and grow expertise in new areas.
    • Use your expertise in areas such as scientific visualization and multi-threaded algorithm design to develop compelling visual effects.
    • Work with Rust and Python and Object-Oriented software design principles to craft creative new solutions.
    • Apply technologies in multiple domain/problem areas (structural engineering, physics, GIS to name a few).
    • Apply your knowledge to solve challenging real-world customer problems and communicate complex concepts to non-expert audiences.
    • Work closely with a collaborative team so your team player personality and excellent written/oral communication skills will be essential.

      Required Skills and Experience

    • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related field or currently enrolled in a BS degree program with completion within a year along with 5-7 years of relevant work experience OR MS with 3-5 years of related work experience
    • Strong high-level language (e.g. Rust, Python, Typescript, Java, Go, C++ etc.) programming skills
    • A desire to work in a dynamic team environment
    • Experience with Rust and backend API design and development (Rust, Python, WASM, C++)
    • Experience with algorithm development
    • Experience with code profiling and debugging – IDE Experience (e.g. Microsoft Visual Studio, PyCharm, VSCode)
    • Knowledge of:
      • Data Structures
      • Design Patterns
      • Object-oriented development
      • Modern software tools (e.g., Git, Subversion, JIRA, CMake)

        Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Java, Modern C++ (14/17/20), Go, or other modern languages
    • Experience with Angular or Vue and Typescript
    • Experience with Modern C++ (14/17/20) and modern static analysis tools
    • Expertise in DevSecOps pipeline development and maintenance
    • Expertise in Continuous Integration pipeline development and maintenance
    • Expertise in containerization, Linux, and Kubernetes
    • Expertise in DoD modeling and simulation technology and programs
    • Expertise or education in Engineering and/or Physics
    • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written mediums with technical and non-technical
    • Experience working in an Agile development team
    • Interest in presenting material to customers

     

    Security Clearance Requirements:

    The projects that will be assigned involve government work and US Citizenship is required. Selected applicant will be subject to a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

    Hours of On-Site Work: Monday-Friday; 8am-5pm (Hybrid capacity)

    FLSA Exemption Status: Exempt
