  • Responsibilities

    Kelaca is looking for a Reliability Engineer for our client partner. This position is initially based in Pasco, WA (anticipating 6 months) with limited travel during this initial period, and ultimately based in Raleigh, NC with 50% travel. Relocation support is available.

    The Reliability Engineer will support the operational reliability of newly commissioned or acquired industrial water treatment and renewable energy facilities. This hands-on role blends mechanical engineering expertise with performance data analysis and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, developing and optimizing reliability platforms, and thrive in a lean, agile environment focused on rapid issue resolution and continuous improvement.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Own and be the SME of our CMMS (existing system is Fiix)
    • Monitor and analyze equipment performance using Excel, CMMS, Power BI, SCADA system data
    • Build out / optimize PM’s and PDM’s, and related procedures
    • Audit planned and corrective work; drive operational excellence through the maintenance organization
    • Lead / conduct structured root cause analyses (e.g., 5 Whys) for equipment failures and anomalies; document / communicate findings; recommend / implement procedural and equipment improvements economically to improve reliability
    • Coordinate with equipment vendors and engineering leaders to resolve technical issues
    • Develop standard operating procedures for equipment maintenance
    • Generate weekly reliability performance (KPI’s) reports and communicate to the organization
    • Challenge and assist facilities to continually improve reliability performance
    • Help define and scale reliability practices for new sites entering the company’s portfolio
    • Develop spare parts strategy and assist in setting up the stockroom
    • Support preventive maintenance planning and execution
    • Support the development of R&M budgets and maintenance capital forecasts
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations and maintenance teams
    • Support safe work practices and adherence to site protocols
    • Contribute to equipment commissioning and reliability testing when applicable
    • Engage in other duties as assigned by leadership
    • Travel as required to plants, customers/partners, for in person meetings, trouble shooting, field tests

    Skills and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience
    • 5+ years of experience in reliability engineering, or related field
    • Ideally, experience as a planner/scheduler
    • Expert in CMMS systems
    • Proficiency in Excel and performance tracking tools, Power BI is a plus
    • Experience with root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys)
    • Familiarity with SCADA systems or similar industrial monitoring tools
    • Excellent problem-solving and documentation skills
    • Ability to communicate technical details clearly and concisely
    • Willingness to work in a plant and office environment
    • Strong collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders
    • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and equipment reliability
    • Communicates clearly across technical/non-technical stakeholders and cross-functional teams, while also working independently
    • Thrives in fast-paced environments that require hands-on troubleshooting and a solutions-oriented mindset
    • Experience working in start-up or newly commissioned facility environments preferred
    • Once in Raleigh, NC: willingness and ability to travel 50% of the time, for up to 2 weeks in each trip though most trips are 5 days or less
