    POSITION SUMMARY:

    An Associate Engineer at this entry level is responsible for technical work which requires independent judgment and an understanding of science and engineering to perform critical aspects of developing and optimizing manufacturing processes for new and existing products. A person in this role will execute key activities supporting projects in the formulation labs, pilot lab and manufacturing plants (both corporate and subcontractor plants) as well as regulatory and safety assessments. These activities will involve process troubleshooting, optimization, and new product/process start-up. Specific guidance is given by their manager about the nature and extent of the assignments. These assignments are a vital part of the process of designing and maintaining our products.

    KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Performing hands-on experimentation and trials working with other engineers.

    • Collecting and analyzing trial data to determine feasibility and manufacturability.

    • Designing, troubleshooting, and optimizing innovative processes.

    • Developing predictive model capabilities to improve process design and scaling methodologies.

    • Decision Making 30% – Determining if trial pilot and manufacturing results are sufficiently successful.

    • Problem Solving 40%– Regularly solve the problem of designing manufacturing processes to produce high-quality products quickly and reliably.

    • Solve problems related to poor outcome of pilot and manufacturing batches. Why did the batch fail? How can the manufacturing process be redesigned to ensure success? What experiments and experimental batches need to be conducted to reach a solution? These are often very complex problems and solutions.

    • Independence of Action and Accountability 15% – Significant oversight and support in the form of daily to by-weekly discussions on the engineer's commercialization projects.

    • Leadership 15% – No direct reports. However, there are opportunities for managing and mentoring interns, participation in task forces to improve our Engineering and R&D business processes, and for recruiting interns and new employees.

    PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • With the assistance and oversight of senior engineers, develops manufacturing processes and accomplishes new process start-up for a variety of new or existing cosmetic products at new or existing corporate plants or subcontractor locations.

    • Supports senior engineers in innovating, planning, and executing major projects.

    • Becomes proficient in standard procedures and methods relevant to the job.

    • Plans, coordinates, and executes troubleshooting activities to solve manufacturing process problems to improve productivity, quality, or efficiency.

    • Plans, and conducts tests on laboratory, pilot plant, or full production scale to achieve department goals.

    • Documents and summarizes data and project work for review and interpretation.

    • Communicates results and observations to supervisor and other team members, making special note of unexpected results or observations and making recommendations.

    • Participates in multi-discipline team activities, as appropriate, to achieve departmental, divisional, and corporate goals.

    • Develops an understanding of available resources and uses them to get the job done.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

    • B.S., Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

    • Solid communication skills (written and verbal) and demonstrated interpersonal skills. Excellent computer skills including MS Office.

    • Travel in North America, Europe and Asia will be required.              

    • Attends and perform batch manufacturing and filling experiments at the ETC, in pilot labs and manufacturing plants.

    • Ability to demonstrate strong fundamental engineering skills.

    • Working knowledge of test methods used to validate equipment performance.

    • Knowledge of OSHA, Code Compliance, and manufacturing workflow planning.

    • Minimum Education level: Bachelor’s Degree

    • Travel Time: 15%

    • Required Language Proficiency: English
