    COMMUNITY IMPACT INTERNSHIP

    The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization. Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, to include volunteer recruitment/management, community event planning and management, public health research, community partner networking/connection, and program development/implementation.

    INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

    • Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week

    • Internship Duration: Fall

    • Virtual - Work from home as well as in the community of Augusta, Georgia/North Augusta, South Carolina areas

    INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES:

    Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

    • Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment

    • Opportunity to explore a career-path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization

    • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management

    • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others

    TASKS COULD INCLUDE THINGS LIKE THE FOLLOWING:

    • Community event planning and participation

    • Assistance with developing event materials.

    • Volunteer Management

    • Public health research

    • Establishing/maintaining strong community partnerships

    • Program development and implementation

    • Leadership and board support

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Qualified candidates must have completed their freshman year of college and must currently be a student in good standing with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a 4.0 scale.

    • Creativity

    • Strong public relations and networking skills

    • Strong time management skills

    • Excellent organizational and listening skills

    • Excellent oral, written and electronic communication

    • Excellent attention to detail

    • Desire to create meaningful impact in the local community

    • Minimum availability of 10 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.

    Required Equipment:

    • Laptop (the preference would be for interns to use their own equipment, and we only provision AHA equipment when necessary)
