    What’s special about this team:

    The Sciences team, located at our headquarters in Ada, Michigan, conducts in silico, in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo research programs to fuel the innovation pipeline for Amway’s global Heath & Wellness brands. Specifically, the group where this role resides conducts foundational skin research, identifies & develops skin benefit validation methods, and applies these to commercialize differentiated ingredient and product technologies for Amway’s consumer skincare and personal care product categories. This team partners with internal innovation teams and external leaders from academia and industry to bring new benefit-driven and experiential products to our customers.

    How would an intern contribute to the team’s success:

    This project aims to pioneer the utilization of Raman spectroscopy for in vivo human skin measurements of active compound permeation, advancing the field of nutraceutical and cosmetic research at Amway. The successful development, calibration, and validation of the Raman spectroscopy system will provide valuable insights into skin permeation behavior, offering a powerful tool for future studies and applications in supplement delivery and skincare product development at Amway.

    An example of a typical project would be:

    This project seeks to establish an innovative Raman spectroscopy system for non-invasive in vivo measurements of active compound permeation in human skin. By configuring the system, developing accurate calibration procedures, and conducting rigorous validation studies, the project aims to provide comprehensive insights into compound distribution, penetration depth, and temporal dynamics.

    Required skills and background:

    • Desired Major: Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics
    • Desired Class Year: Junior, Senior, Masters, PHD
    • Desired Skills: design of experiment, in vivo experiment, result analysis, optical physics (preferred), analytical chemistry (preferred), good communication

    *Actual compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including skill set and class year.
