Internship Job Title: Beauty Formulation

What is special about this team: The Beauty, Personal Care, and Home Care Center of Excellence is a diverse collection of scientists, engineers, clinical investigators, and technicians enthusiastic about continual innovation and the development of new and improved products. This collection of professionals helps to determine the future of Amway’s world class global beauty, home, and personal care product lines. This team sees the full spectrum of product development activities from early discovery, through development and commercial production to ongoing product maintenance. Members of this team collaborate regularly with Marketers, Legal, Regulatory, Product Experience & Insights, Imaging, Amway affiliates, and external testing labs.

How would an intern contribute to the team’s success: Under the guidance and mentorship of a senior level scientist, an intern would develop and perform laboratory experiments to test hypotheses related to product development. Test data will then be evaluated with the mentor, leading to either additional testing, new technology evaluation, or formulation development.

An example of a typical project is: A typical internship project in our group would involve developing recommendations for a portion of a new product formulation. For example, an intern may be asked to test the performance of various surfactant systems in a shampoo or evaluate alterate raw materials to retain product aesthetics and meet “clean” guidelines. These projects are REAL with recommendations frequently incorporated into new product launches, sometimes leading to new discoveries and patent applications.

What skills and background will be important to be successful in this internship?

Desired Skills: Mastery of organic and/or analytical chemistry, evidence of creativity and problem solving, and exceptional written and oral communication skills

Desired Prospective Degree: Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
