    The American Heart Association has an internship opportunity in our Southwest Region for a college student or recent graduate for a hands-on experience in various facets Marketing and Communications with a focus on earned and social media.

    We are committed to providing interns an immersive experience learning about and supporting the Association’s life-changing work. This internship with the Communications Team will provide hands-on experience with strategies and initiatives to communicate about the Association’s mission to the media, partners and stakeholders, Association staff and volunteers, and others. The internship will provide an opportunity to collaborate with teams across the Marketing and Communications department and throughout the Association.

    The internship involves a commitment from 1/17/2023-5/5/2023 and 20-25 hours per week – specific hours worked will be determined based on the intern’s schedule. Our internships offer the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and customer service.

    INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

    • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

    • Internship Duration: 1/17/2023-5/5/2023

    • Hybrid in-person/remote position with flexibility to be located in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin or Denton Counties

    • Will occasionally report to office in Irving, Texas and local events as assigned

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES:

    The Communications Intern is responsible for assisting the communications team in planning and executing the marketing and communications efforts to promote Youth Market programs, development and events efforts. Specific focus will be on social media and earned media support.

    PROJECTED OUTCOMES:

    • Experience working with and managing media relationships

    • Understanding of communications planning and execution to promote non-profit programs

    • Improved written and verbal communication skills

    • Experience working in a professional environment

    • Experience working with corporate branding

    • Opportunity to expand personal portfolio

    • Increase knowledge of non-profit landscape

    • Opportunity to develop a full scope strategic communications plan

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

    • Understanding of social media management

    • Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

    • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs preferred

    • Minimum availably 20hrs/week M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm, with additional weekday evening events, and some weekend events TBD.
