    The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

    WE HAVE AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR AN INTERN TO WORK CLOSELY WITH THE COMMUNITY HEALTH TEAM. THIS OPPORTUNITY HAS A COOKING FOCUS TO ASSIST IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A SUSTAINABLE CULTURE OF HEALTH.

    Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, to include community event planning and management, co-leading cooking classes, teaching healthy eating habits, and program development/implementation.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

    • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week. Monday-Thursday between the hours of 1:00-8:00 pm, with flexibility.

    • Internship Duration: 5/22/23 – 8/11/23

    • Hybrid position. Must be located in Baltimore, Maryland region.

    • Position will include some home office and in community work.

    • Salary: $23.00 per hour

    INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES:

    Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

    • Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment.

    • Gain hands-on experience with an impactful and innovative community health program.

    • Opportunity to explore a public health career-path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization.

    • Assisting in organizing/implementing community health initiatives and programs throughout communities.

    • Managing and organizing volunteers.

    • Help with the implementation of signature events and other activities.

    • Attend internal and external meetings as requested, including health fairs and community events as necessary.

    • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

    TASKS INCLUDE:

    • Co-leading weekly in-person cooking classes as well as off-site mobile classes. and events for Baltimore area communities.

    • Teaching people with varying level of skillsets how to cook healthy and affordable meals in line with American Heart Association nutritional guidelines.

    • Assisting in set up and clean up of all cooking events and executing proper kitchen organization, following ServSafe guidelines.

    • Assisting the development and implementation of programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Interested in food and nutrition security work with awareness of and appreciation for appropriate cultural contexts required.

    • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.

    • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment.

    • Effective oral communication skills.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.

    • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

    • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, Monday-Thursday between the hours of 1:00-8:00 pm, with flexibility.

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
