    DEVELOPMENT INTERN

    The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

    It will offer experience in the use of current business and development technologies, including the use of a computer and software applications. Our internships offer the opportunity to gain professional experience with a national non-profit organization, further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and customer service. Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, to include volunteer recruitment/management, community event planning and management, public health research, community partner networking/connection, and program development/implementation.

    INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

    • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week

    • Internship Duration: 5/22/2023 - 8/11/2023

    • Intern must be based in Austin, TX

    • This is a hybrid position (including some time working from home, working from the Austin office, and working offsite at events). Reliable transportation is needed.

    • Salary: $23.00 per hour

    INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES:

    Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

    • Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment

    • Opportunity to explore a career-path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization

    • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management

    • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others

    Responsibilities include assisting with the development and implementation of fundraising activities, programming and logistics for events including Heart Walks and Field Days.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    TASKS COULD INCLUDE THINGS LIKE THE FOLLOWING:

    • Heart Walk Company and Team Coach Visits to provide fundraising strategies and tools for success. Virtual and in-person.

    • Assistance with pre-event planning, day of execution, and event wrap-up projects related to any of the events listed above.

    • Helping with follow-up calls and contact to prospects

    • Assisting administrative staff with tasks such as printing, collating, thank you cards, etc.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

    • Ability to work professionally with colleagues and professional volunteers

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities

    • Meeting management and event management including set up, outlook invitations, copies, catering, logistics and meeting minutes

    • Knowledge of business letter writing format, style, and protocol

    • Intermediate use in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and PowerPoint

    • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm, with additional weekday evening events, and some weekend events TBD.
