The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

We have an exciting opportunity for an intern to work closely with the Development Team to assist in the implementation of a sustainable culture of health within the diverse & vulnerable communities in the Middle Tennessee market Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, to include volunteer recruitment/management, community event planning and management, community partner networking/connection, and program development/ implementation.

Internship Overview:

• Time Commitment: 25 hours per week
• Internship Duration: 1/16/24-5/3/24
• Hybrid position based in Nashville, TN or immediate surrounding area.
• Salary: $23.00 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

• Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment
• Opportunity to explore a career-path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization
• Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management
• Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

• Work with Event Coordinators, Development Directors, and Executive Directors to support event planning and logistics.
• Create promotional material for end of year communications and stewardship of local donors.
• Assist with organization and communication coordination for Women and Teen of Impact Campaigns and Executive Leadership Team Meetings.
• Develop relationships with Auction Volunteers to help procure items for the 2024 Heart Ball and 2024 Go Red for Women Luncheon, learning to lead through influence rather than authority.

Qualifications

• Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to work professionally in corporate and non-profit environments.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office programs.
• Strong leadership experience.
• Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.
• Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
• Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Ability/willingness to travel across the Middle Tennessee for events; have a means of reliable transportation
• Minimum availability of 25 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
• Monday availability preferred in order to attend team meetings.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
