The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

This position supports the Bert Blain Shootout Golf Outing in Janesville, WI, and the American Heart Association’s Heart Challenge in Madison, WI which consists of the Heart Walk and CycleNation.

Internship Overview:

• Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
• Internship Duration: 5/20/2024 – 8/9/2024
• Hybrid position (In office & remote work). Intern must be based in the Madison, WI, or South central Wisconsin area.
• Salary: $23.00 per hour

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

• Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment.
• Opportunity to explore a career path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization.
• Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management.
• Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

• Assistance with pre-event planning, day of execution, and event wrap-up projects related to the events listed above
• Silent Auction coordination for the Bert Blain Shootout Golf Outing
• Heart Walk company coordination and communication, including coach huddles, fundraising initiatives and walker recruitment
• Helping with follow-up calls and outreach to prospective companies and coaches for the Heart Walk
• Research company information for prospects
• Sponsor presentation preparation
• Assist Development Directors in gathering requested materials from companies as follow-up from company meetings
• Assist with pulling reports and data entry
• Assist with Letter of Intent and Attachment A creation/processing
• Assisting administrative staff with tasks such as printing, collating, thank you cards, etc.
• Assist with Hands-Only CPR events

Qualifications

• 1-2 years of educational experience in business, communications, nonprofit fundraising, or event management (preferred.
• Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to work professionally with colleagues and professional volunteers.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
• Knowledge of business letter writing format, style, and protocol.
• Intermediate use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
• Basic knowledge of Canva is a plus.
• Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection & Reliable Transportation.
• Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
