    Intern, Prospect and Market Research

    The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

    Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, to include exposure to current non-profit and development practices, technologies, and research and the opportunity to apply findings and insights to fundraising strategies. Furthermore, you will further develop communication and presentation skills, and experience skills in team collaboration and project management. The SouthWest region of the American Heart Association comprises the states of Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Wyoming.

    INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

    • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week

    • Internship Duration: 5/22/2023 – 8/11/2023

    • This is a hybrid position with occasional in-office work. Intern must be based in Irving, TX or Philadelphia, PA

    • Salary: $23.00 per hour

    INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES:

    Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

    • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management.

    • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    TASKS COULD INCLUDE THINGS LIKE THE FOLLOWING:

    • Reporting to the Vice President of Strategic Relationships in the Office of the Executive Vice President, our intern will research key donors and leadership volunteers to inform Board member and major gift donor pathing, engagement, and strategies.

    • The intern will conduct research on current and prospective AHA donors, Board members, and leadership volunteers to identify backgrounds, past giving histories, wealth indicators, philanthropic motivations, and more.

    • Segment data, synthesize information and disseminate results through written profiles and reports.

    • Interpret, analyze, and synthesize biographical and financial information on individuals, foundations, and corporations.

    • Research companies and healthcare systems within the SouthWest to identify connections between their mission, giving and community impact priorities, internal and external influencers, and the American Heart Association’s mission, impact, and priorities.

    • Company and health system partnerships are foundational to the American Heart Association. Through them and with them we reach and engage countless employees and citizens with our messaging, trainings, and resources; improve the quality of care and research across our region and the country and raise millions in support of our life-saving mission.

    • Our intern will analyze the AHA of the SW’s existing corporate and health systems support and customer base and conduct research to inform and identify strategies to expand existing partnerships and engage new ones.

    • Research Reporting Contributions

    • Our intern will compile research findings into clear and cohesive reports and organize findings and reports on a shared, secure internal site.

    • The intern will present findings and key insights to staff within the AHA who carry responsibilities related to philanthropic and other revenue generating goals and relationships.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in non-profit management or a related field.

    • Background and interest in areas such as health communication, sociology, psychology, marketing, or business is desired.

    • Demonstrated excellence in written communications skills, including writing on health topics for promotional or educational outcomes.

    • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.

    • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.

    • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities

    • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

    • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
