    The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

    In this role, the intern has opportunities to learn hands-on how the School Engagement lead promotes the Association’s campaigns, research, programs, and cause initiatives to achieve heart health for all. The internship will provide an opportunity to collaborate with teams across the Marketing and Communications, Development, and Community Impact departments, and throughout the American Heart Association. The intern will provide support to and collaborate with the School Engagement team through various marketing communications strategies and tactics, supporting the organization’s communication efforts with all audiences, and performing administrative and core marketing duties.

    Internship Overview

    • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
    • Internship Duration: 1/16/24-5/3/24
    • Hybrid- Intern must be in the Chicago, IL or surrounding areas
    • Salary: $23 per hour

    Internship Outcomes

    Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

    • Opportunity to explore a career path with a reputable voluntary health/service organization.
    • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about developing content based on a brand’s positioning, character, and purpose.
    • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriches your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others.

    Responsibilities

    Tasks could include things like the following :

    • Assist in drafting a wide variety of communications materials to promote campaigns, events, and programs (e.g., resource links, internal tools, photos, or other multimedia, etc.
    • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and work with all levels within the School Engagement team and School decision-makers.
    • Responsible for collaborating and assisting the School Engagement Director lead in planning and executing school event management.
    • Provide ideas to support strategic plans and revenue growth.
    • Supporting the implementation and execution of marketing and communications plans.
    • Attend and implement schoolwide assemblies.
    • Ability to travel to local meetings and events as required.
    • Recruiting/Relationship building with volunteers. These volunteers are primarily principals, teachers, PE professionals, Superintendents, and survivor families.

    Qualifications

    • Candidates who are pursuing a degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or localization/translation with an interest in non-profit and healthcare communications a plus.
    • Demonstrated excellence in written communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain professionalism in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
    • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Reliable Wi-Fi Connection
    • Minimum availability of 20 hrs./wk., Monday-Friday.
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
