    The American Heart Association has a great opportunity for a Part-time Internship with our National Hypertension Control Initiative (NHCI) Team. The team develops and supports signature events and activities across the country. The internship will provide an opportunity to collaborate with teams across the initiative, and throughout the organization. The intern will provide support to and collaborate with the NHCI Clinical Quality Improvement (CQI) team through various strategies and tactics for research, vetting clinical processes, reviewing and editing CQI process documents and reports and performing administrative and quality improvement duties.

    The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

    Individuals will obtain practical experience and receive hands-on training in various disciplines, to include volunteer recruitment/management, community event planning and management, public health research, community partner networking/connection, and program development/implementation.

    INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

    • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week

    • Internship Duration: 5/22/2023 – 8/11/2023

    • Remote Position

    • Salary: $23.00 per hour

    INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES:

    Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

    • Gain important and practical job skills to be successful in a non-profit environment

    • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management

    • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide ideas to support strategic clinical quality improvement plans for health center engagements, deployment of NHCI clinical assets, curriculum design, clinical process evaluation, and Clinical Quality Improvement activities.

    • Assist team to develop and improve tools and resources in support of health centers implementing a Self-Measured Blood Pressure program and NHCI clinical training and technical assistance activities.

    • Assist with scribing for engagements with internal and external stakeholders.

    • Other clinical quality improvement activities as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Candidates who are juniors, seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in Nursing, Biology, Health Science, Healthcare administration, or Community Health Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

    • Knowledge of AP style writing.

    • Understanding of health disparity and health equity, public health, community health centers, community-based organizations.

    • Strong awareness of and interest in current events, pop culture, social media trends (including emerging platforms) and what’s in the news related to health care, heart disease, stroke, and nonprofit organizations

    • Knowledge of PR experience

    • Demonstrated excellence in written communications skills, including writing on health topics for promotional or educational outcomes.

    • Demonstrated skills in effective one-on-one and group communications and comfort with working with all levels of community leaders, volunteers, and staff.

    • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.

    • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities

    • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

    • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
