Janssen Scientific Affairs (JSA), LLC, a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for a summer intern at Titusville, NJ. MAxSES is the market access & policy research team within Janssen Scientific Affairs that shapes scientific strategy, develops Janssens’ differentiated health policy evidence, and builds external engagement with leading researchers, economists, and policy experts. The team generates novel evidence and translates knowledge to engage internal and external partners on key issues that impact patient access – driving insights on the healthcare ecosystem, the public and private insurance markets and the economics of biopharmaceutical innovation.

The 2023 graduate summer intern will work closely with a group of experienced directors to demonstrate the value of pharmaceutical innovation and remove barriers to access for patients. They will have the following opportunities, among others:

• Understand the pharmaceutical industry organization and the public policy environment that effects it

• Recognize the value and role of economic, health economic and health outcomes research in US healthcare

• Grow competency in review, analysis, and synthesis of scientific literature around market access

• Learn directly from a senior team of directors with diverse backgrounds in (health) economics, epidemiology bioethics, public affairs, market access consulting and finance, as well as statistics and modeling

• Drive the compilation, analysis, and synthesis of real-world data, published literature and grey literature, market/ competitive intelligence, clinical data and information from research databases

• Participate in science- based writing and editing of research synthesis, policy papers, backgrounders, presentations, and other publications;

• Verbally communicate economic and clinical research findings to various cross-functional teams

• Support implementation and enhancements of key business processes of the team as well as engagements with external scientific partners

• Take part in the organization and conduct of trainings and external meetings (e.g. advisory boards, project research calls)

• Support observational research projects (e.g. claims data analyses) and economic models

• Opportunity to deliver an issue-centered capstone/ key research project over the course of the internship

Expected hours: Position involves approximately 8 hours of work per day, Monday through Friday (a 40-hour work week) in Titusville, NJ. Based on team schedules, at least three consecutive days will require presence in the office.

Qualifications:

• Should be pursuing a graduate degree in economics, health policy, health services research, business (MBA), government affairs/ public administration, epidemiology, public health, biomedical sciences, pharmacy, or related area

• Minimum 3.0 GPA is required

• Must not be a Freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date)

• Experience in clear, concise, and insightful communications and writing

• Strong interest in health & life sciences economics, payer/ government policy analysis, outcomes research, real-world evidence

• Must be available for the duration of at least 10 weeks over the 2023 summer

• Self-starter and collaborator with positive attitude and problem-solving mindset

• Demonstrated efficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams

• Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the US. without requiring visa sponsorship

• Candidates must be able to provide their own transportation to the work location.

• Housing is not provided; there is no reimbursement for interview-related expenses.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is: MBA - $50/hour, PhD - $50/hour, Masters - $27.50/hour to $36/hour
