    Janssen Scientific Affairs (JSA), a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting nine (9) summer interns to work in the Real-World Value & Evidence (RWV&E) team. The internship opportunities will support the multiple therapeutic areas, including Cardiovascular-Metabolism (CVM), Pulmonary & Hypertension (PAH), Retina, Hematology, Neuroscience, as well as other areas, in the Titusville, NJ, Horsham, PA, or virtual location.  

    Expected hours: Position involves approximately 8 hours of work per day, Monday through Friday (a 40-hour work week) in Titusville, NJ, Horsham, PA, or virtual.

    Position #1: 2023 RWVE CVM SUMMER INTERN – located in Titusville, NJ

    The RWV&E is comprised of Market Access Scientific strategists (MAx) with the mission to deliver real-world evidence to a variety of U.S. stakeholders in healthcare, including patients, providers, and payers. One area of focus is the generation and communication of clinical and economic evidence to payers, which supports informed decision-making on the value and use of treatments in Janssen’s North America Pharmaceuticals portfolio. Each intern will be exposed to the RWV&E area to:

    • Understand the pharmaceutical industry organization

    • Recognize the value and role of real-world evidence generation (e.g. health economic and outcomes research) in modern healthcare

    • Gain competency in review and analysis of scientific literature

    • Develop medical writing skills

    • Prepare and conduct presentations to internal stakeholders

    • Verbally communicate economic and clinical research findings to various cross-functional teams

    • Participate in observational research projects

    Position #2: 2023 RWVE PAH & Retina Summer Intern– located in Titusville, NJ

    The RWV&E is comprised of Market Access Scientific strategists (MAx) with the mission to deliver real-world evidence to a variety of U.S. stakeholders in healthcare, including patients, providers, and payers. One area of focus is the generation and communication of clinical and economic evidence to payers, which supports informed decision-making on the value and use of treatments in Janssen’s North America Pharmaceuticals portfolio. Each intern will be exposed to the RWV&E area to:

    • Understand the pharmaceutical industry organization

    • Recognize the value and role of real-world evidence generation (e.g. health economic and outcomes research) in modern healthcare

    • Gain competency in review and analysis of scientific literature

    Position #3: 2023 RWVE Hematology Summer Intern– located in Horsham, PA

    RWV&E is comprised of Market Access Scientific strategists (MAx) with the mission to deliver real-world evidence to a variety of U.S. stakeholders in healthcare, including patients, providers, and payers. One area of focus is the generation and communication of clinical and economic evidence to payers, which supports informed decision-making on the value and use of treatments in Janssen’s North America Pharmaceuticals portfolio. Each intern will be exposed to the RWV&E area to:

    • Understand the pharmaceutical industry organization

    • Recognize the value and role of real-world evidence generation (e.g. health economic and outcomes research) in modern healthcare

    • Gain competency in review and analysis of scientific literature

    Position #4: 2023 RWVE Neuroscience Summer Intern– located in Titusville, NJ.

    The average duration for the internship opportunities is 10-12 weeks of full-time work. The position will be located at the Titusville, NJ location for the Summer of 2023.

    In this role, you could expect to gain experiences and have responsibilities in the following areas as a member of the RWV&E team:

    • Understand the pharmaceutical industry organization including several cross-functional teams within the organization.

    • Participate in value demonstration and real-world evidence projects examining prevalence and incidence, treatment patterns, burden of illness of a disease condition within Neuroscience therapeutic area.

    • Learn about the intersection between business and scientific aspects of evidence generation planning and execution.

    • Recognize the value and role of RWE and HEOR in product launch, life cycle management and healthcare decision making.

    • Gain competency in review and analysis of scientific literature.

    • Support development of study protocols, proposals, and publications.

    • Prepare and conduct presentations to communicate economic and clinical research findings to various cross-functional teams to internal stakeholders.

    • Develop medical writing and data interpretation skills.

    • Work within a team to identify and fill gaps in the existing scientific evidence to meet the research and business needs.

    Position #5: 2023 RWVE MAA SUMMER INTERN– located in Titusville, NJ

    The Real-World Value & Evidence Market Access Analytics (RWV&E MAA) team is focused on meeting the needs of our value-driven healthcare system by using high-quality research activities to assess the value of Janssen’s products and services through real world evidence generation, advanced analytics, and external partnering. This team of tenured researchers is responsible for building industry-leading capabilities across pharmaceutical scientific and commercial functions and external thought leaders. Using real-world data from health claims, electronic health records and other sources, the team develops innovative advanced analytics to better understand the effectiveness of pharmaceutical interventions and market access. The RWV&E MAA summer intern will work with the Market Access Analytics team and focus on advanced analytics, machine learning, predictive modeling, and dashboard building. In addition, the intern will have the following opportunities:

    • Understand the value and role of real-world data analytics and evidence generation within the landscape of our current healthcare system and in insurance/payer negotiations

    • Collaborate with researchers and data scientists to gain familiarity with statistics, epidemiology, and advanced analytical tools by utilizing large, secondary databases.

    • Gain familiarity with Janssen therapeutic areas, such as cardiovascular disease, oncology, neuroscience, metabolic disease, immunology, pulmonary hypertension, and infectious disease.

    • Gain familiarity with the pharmaceutical industry

    Position #6: 2023 RWMAA Summer Intern– located in Titusville, NJ  

    The summer intern, Real World Market Access Analytics (RWMAA) will be responsible for executing statistical analysis plans, programming, and performing data quality checks to address business questions. The summer intern will be an integral part of the RW Market Access Analytics group and will collaborate with Commercial Excellence, Strategic Customer Group, IT, Marketing, Real World Value and Evidence, and other functions to perform scientifically rigorous real world data analytics. The Analyst will prepare analytical files and manage research datasets, write and execute on statistical analysis plans using claims data and/or electronic medical records and ensure high-level technical, scientific and methodological expertise in statistics, health economics and outcomes research and/or epidemiology. The successful candidate will establish and maintain statistical/database programming standards of excellence for RWE studies that are intended for insight generation, and internal /external communication. This person will also perform urgent analyses that are needed with short turnaround time. Additional responsibilities of the Analyst include: advise on appropriate statistical and programming approaches to answering key research questions, contributing to the development of statistical analysis plan and reports.

    Position #7: 2023 RW PHR Summer Intern- Virtual

    Real World Population Health Research (RW PHR) leads customer engagement from a Janssen cross-therapeutic area research perspective through partnership with key external and internal stakeholders. RW PHR develops and implement strategies for partnering with customers/entities to develop, prioritize, and execute RW PHR and Healthcare Quality projects that meet stakeholder needs and align with Janssen therapeutic area (TA) and PHR key research questions and business objectives.

    The summer intern will work closely with a group of experienced directors to advance health equity and population health management.

    Activities will include but not limited to the following responsibilities:

    • Understand the pharmaceutical industry organization and its role to advance population health

    • Grow competency in review, analysis, and synthesis of scientific literature around population health

    • Work within RW PHR to inform strategy and concept shaping based on literature reviews, external and internal stakeholder discussions

    • Contribute individually and/or as a team member to support population health research studies and resources

    • Engage with external stakeholders to understand changing population health evidence needs

    • Verbally communicate population health findings to various cross-functional teams

    • Support research projects (e.g., survey, retrospective studies) and tool/resource development

    • Opportunity to deliver population health centered capstone / key research project over the course of the internship

    Position #8 & 9: 2023 RWVE RW Summer Intern– located in Titusville, NJ

    The RWV&E organization is focused on meeting the needs of our value-driven healthcare system by using high-quality research activities to assess the value of Janssen’s products and services through real world evidence generation, advanced analytics, and external partnering.  This team of tenured researchers is responsible for building industry-leading capabilities across pharmaceutical scientific and commercial functions, working closely with colleagues in Data Sciences, Medical Affairs, Health Economics, Market Access, Epidemiology and other evidence-generating functions and external thought leaders.  Using real-world data from health claims, electronic health records and other sources, the team develops innovative observational study designs and employs advanced analytics to better understand the effectiveness of pharmaceutical interventions, patient journey and disease burden. The RWV&E summer intern will work with the Real-world Research team and focus on preparation/execution of study protocols and statistical analysis plans, literature reviews, data analysis and summary, and peer-reviewed scientific publication preparation. In addition, the intern will have the following opportunities:

    • Collaborate with data scientists to gain familiarity with statistics, epidemiology and advanced analytical tools by utilizing large, secondary databases.

    • Understand the value and role of real-world evidence generation in our current healthcare system and in payer negotiations

    • Gain familiarity with Janssen therapeutic areas, such as cardiovascular disease, oncology, neuroscience, metabolic health, immunology and infectious disease.

    • Develop competency in the analysis and interpretation of real world data

    • Develop scientific writing skills

    • Prepare and conduct presentations on scientific and outcomes research

    • Gain familiarity with the pharmaceutical industry

    Qualifications

    Position #1: 2023 RWVE CVM SUMMER INTERN – located in Titusville, NJ

    • Candidates should be pursuing a graduate degree in economics, outcomes research, life sciences, epidemiology, public health, health policy, biomedical sciences, health services research, pharmacy, or related area of study

    • Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited college and have at least 2 years of graduate study in PharmD, PhD, MPH or other master’s programs

    • Must not be a Freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date)

    • Candidates should have good communication skills and a strong interest in health economics/Pharmacoeconomics, outcomes research, real-world evidence, and pharmaceutical industry

    • Candidates must be available for at least 10 weeks over the 2023 summer

    • Candidates must demonstrate good computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)

    • A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred

    Position #2: 2023 RWVE PAH & Retina Summer Intern– located in Titusville, NJ

    • Candidates should be pursuing a graduate degree in economics, outcomes research, life sciences, epidemiology, public health, health policy, biomedical sciences, health services research, pharmacy, nursing or related area of study

    • Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited college and have at least 2 years of graduate study in PharmD, PhD, MPH or other master’s programs

    • Must not be a Freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date)

    • Candidates should have good communication skills and a strong interest in health economics/Pharmacoeconomics, outcomes research, real-world evidence, and pharmaceutical industry

    • Candidates must be available for at least 10 weeks over the 2023 summer

    • Candidates must demonstrate good computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)

    • A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred

    Position #3: 2023 RWVE Hematology Summer Intern– located in Horsham, PA

    • Candidates should reside within the Eastern or Central time zone

    • Candidates should be pursuing a graduate degree in economics, life sciences, epidemiology, public health, health policy, biomedical sciences, health services research, pharmacy, or related area of study

    • Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited college and have at least 2 years of graduate study in PharmD, PhD, MPH or other master’s programs

    • Must not be a Freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date)

    • Candidates should have good communication skills and a strong interest in health economics/pharmacoeconomics, outcomes research, real-world evidence, and pharmaceutical industry

    • Candidates must be available for at least 10 weeks over the summer of 2023

    • Candidates must demonstrate efficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

    • A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred

    Position #4: 2023 RWVE Neuroscience Summer Intern– located in Titusville, NJ.

    Successful Summer Interns are required to:

    • Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the US. without requiring visa sponsorship

    • Commit to 10 – 12 weeks in the May – August 2023 timeframe.

    • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher, reflective of all college coursework.

    • Currently be enrolled in an accredited College/University, pursuing a Masters/MBA or PhD degree (not necessarily actively taking classes); preferred fields are Pharmacoeconomics, Outcomes Research, Health Services Research, Epidemiology, Health Policy, Data Sciences, Pharmacy, or related fields.

    • Must not be a Freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date)

    • Basic understanding of real-world evidence or health economic research methods and applications.

    • A passion for Neuroscience therapeutic area is preferred.

    • Candidates must be able to provide their own transportation to the work location.

    Position #5: 2023 RWVE MAA SUMMER INTERN– located in Titusville, NJ

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/institution pursuing a graduate degree in the fields described below and with an interest in data sciences and advanced analytics. 

    • Must not be a Freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date)

    • Familiar with study design in observational research and parametric/non-parametric statistical methods (e.g., linear/non-linear modeling, survival analysis, etc..).  

    • Available for at least 10 weeks over the 2023 summer.

    • Skilled at programming in SQL/Python and statistical packages such as SAS, R, Stata.

    • Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the US. without requiring visa sponsorship

    • A minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred.

    • Position will be based in Titusville, NJ and involves approximately 8 hours of work per day, Monday through Friday (a 40-hour work week). 

    • Candidates must be able to provide their own transportation to the work location.

    • Majors Targeted: Graduate students in biostatistics, epidemiology, economics, psychology, computer science, data science, public health, or related fields.

    Position #6: 2023 RWMAA Summer Intern– located in Titusville, NJ  

    • Being a doctoral candidate in a clinical or health-related field (e.g., PhD, PharmD, DrPH, DSc, etc.) or is required.

    • Proficiency in statistical programming (e.g., SQL, R, Phyton, SAS or STATA) is required. Strong data management skills are required.

    • Experience with analytics, coding and management of administrative claims datasets, electronic health/medical records and/or clinical registry data required.

    • Knowledge of medical terminologies (e.g. ICD, NDC, SNOMED, MedDRA, LOINC, CPT) is required.

    • Self-motivation, self-initiation, and ability to meet deadlines are required. A

    • Ability to plan, organize, and work on multiple tasks simultaneously in different therapeutic areas are required.

    • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.

    • Experience working in a payer / provider environment is preferred.

    • Experience with data visualization techniques such as with Tableau and Spotfire is preferred.

    • This role may require up to 10% travel.

    • Must not be a Freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date)

    • Experience in clear, concise, and insightful communications and writing

    • Strong interest in health & life sciences, public health, population health, real-world evidence

    • Must be available for the duration of at least 10 weeks over the 2023 summer

    • 40-hour work week (8 hours of work per day, Monday through Friday)

    • Self-starter and collaborator with positive attitude and problem-solving mindset

    • Demonstrated efficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams

    Position #8 & 9: 2023 RWVE RW Summer Intern– located in Titusville, NJ

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited college/institution pursuing a graduate degree in the fields described below and with an interest in pharmacoeconomics and health outcomes research and advanced analytics. 

    • Majors Targeted: Graduate students in biostatistics, epidemiology, economics, psychology, computer science, data science, public health or related fields.

    • A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.

    • Must not be a Freshman or a Senior graduating prior to program end date (Seniors must be willing/allowed to extend graduation date)

    • Familiar with study design in observational research and parametric/non-parametric statistical methods (e.g., generalized linear models, Cox Proportional-Hazards Model ).  

    • Prior research experience with large secondary healthcare databases (e.g., administrative claims, electronic medical records) is a plus.

    • Skilled at programming using statistical packages such as in SQL, SAS and/or R.

    • Available for at least 10 weeks over the 2023 summer.

    • Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the US. without requiring visa sponsorship

    • Position will be based in Titusville, NJ and involves approximately 8 hours of work per day, Monday through Friday (a 40-hour work week). 

    • Candidates must be able to provide their own transportation to the work location.

    The anticipated base pay range for this position is Sophomore $20/hr, Junior $21.25/hr, Senior $22.50/hr, Master’s degree $27.50/hr.
