Clinical Engineer Intern, Engineering Sciences, Interventional Oncology

At J&J, we are working to create a world without disease. Redefining lives by finding new and better ways to prevent, intercept, treat, and cure disease inspires us. We bring together the best minds and pursue the most promising science. We collaborate with the world for the health of everyone in it. The Interventional Oncology (INTO), a cross-sector research & development group, is charged by the Executive Committee of J&J with meaningfully altering the course of lung cancer and improving survival by preventing, intercepting, and curing lung cancer.

Clinical Engineering lives at the intersection of medicine, engineering design, risk management, usability, and user needs. We partner with physicians, R&D, clinical operations, quality, regulatory, and marketing to ensure our procedures and devices are designed to meet customers' needs. We craft optimized solutions that improve our products' performance, safety, and efficacy.

The role of the Clinical Engineer Intern is to support the procedure and device development activities essential to the success of INTO's cross-sector Development Teams. This involves translating information gathered through case observation and clinician relationships into insights that feed clinical trials, product development, or investment opportunities into the INTO Engineering Sciences development team's portfolio of R&D efforts. The Clinical Engineer Intern will work closely with clinical trial teams to create procedural documentation, optimize procedure flow, identify unmet needs and risks, and evaluate technologies.

    • Translate clinical observations and insights into opportunity statements and customer requirements that will guide product innovation.
    • Gather and translate feedback and insights about current medical techniques and competitive products used in the market.
    • Lead the development of clinical procedure maps to facilitate the sharing of important clinical insights with project teams and help in the creation of future products, trial procedures, and documents.
    • Deliver oral and written presentations.
