    MGR., SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL

    PURPOSE:

    This position is responsible for the development and implementation of plant safety/health programs and plant environmental compliance programs in support of corporate-wide guidelines, standards, and applicable regulations. Provide on-site leadership, guidance and assistance to plant staff in achieving superior safety/health and environmental performance. This position reports to the Plant Manager and is a member of the Plant Leadership Team. 

    Functions - the following are key roles of the position, but are not inclusive;

    • Provide safety/health and environmental expertise to plant staff, including consulting with and providing guidance to the Plant Manager and management team.
    • Develop, implement and manager safety and health programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local safety & health standards and in support of Graphic Packaging’s safety and health guidelines and minimum safety and health guidelines.
    • Review all safety polices annually for compliance with current regulations.
    • Develop and implement environmental programs to assure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and in support of Graphic Packaging’s environmental guidelines including but not limited to air permitting, hazardous and non-hazardous wastes collection and disposal, NPDES and storm water management.
    • Develop, implement, and track employee safety and plant environmental training in support of written programs.
    • Perform periodic safety and environmental audits. Develop recommendations for improvement.
    • Develop, track, analyze, and communicate plant safety statistics and plant environmental reporting and statistics including but not limited to hazardous waste generator status, Title V air emissions, SARA 312 and 313 usage and reporting requirements, etc.
    • Manage environmental and safety reporting systems for incident reporting, monthly compliance and audits.
    • DOT/RCRA Certified to manage Hazardous Waste.
    • Complete all necessary environmental reporting to state and local agencies
    • Coordinate plant involvement with OSHA and regulatory inspections and audits.
    • Organize workload so that applicable regulatory guidelines are met.
    • Continue to increase professional environmental knowledge through reading, training, conference attendance, etc. Develop a network of key environmental contacts in regulatory agencies, trade organizations and consulting firms.
    • Provide support for incident investigations, case manage local workers compensation and return to work program.
    • Conduct Safety Meetings to review facility safety trends and action Items.
    • Maintain Certification as a Safe Quality Food (SQF) Practitioner in order to help maintain facility SQF Status.
    • Perform Functional Job Risk Assessments to identify potential areas for risk of injury.
    • Complete Safety Training for all new hire and temporary employees.

    Required Skills

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    • Good understanding of federal, state and local safety and workers’ compensation laws, workers’ compensation claim filing and cost containment strategies. BS in safety or environmental science, engineering or related field recommended.
    • Experience (3-7 years) in coordinating, managing and developing Environmental Health and Safety programs.
    • Experience (3 years) in industrial safety, health protection and regulatory compliance.
    • Proficient computer skills in MS Office and database programs.
    • Self-starter, good people skills, strong personal leadership, organizational skills, oral and written communication skills.
    • Good understanding of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.
