    The Electrical Engineer - Power Generation and Controls will have five years’ experience providing design and engineering support for U.S. Coast Guard by providing engineering support the USCGC ship modernization programs, to include upgrades to shipboard electrical system control equipment, governors, and other Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HME) systems and equipment.

     

    Perform Direct Fleet Support and Distance Support Functions on USCGC vessels for electrical propulsion system (PPD) equipment upgrades CONUS and OCONUS This will include design for supportable and non-obsolete equipment (diodes, fuses, and volt traps), in addition to the design of the new digital excitation control system.

     

    Coordinate with ship’s force personnel, shipyards, and facilitate the replacement or repair of shipboard circuit breakers, diodes, and fuses, such as 8273-700-ESS Atlas II Turbine and Engine Control Platform, 8269-1041 HMI, DECS-250E Generator & Motor Exciter – LN1SN1NB, and PIP-32.

     

    Review performance specifications, requirements, component drawings, and installation drawings for the USCGC ice breaker vessels.

     

    Provide testing support for LBTF and Acceptance Testing (AT) test events for electrical and propulsion equipment, by developing, updating and reviewing test procedures, witnessing tests, and reviewing test reports and waiver/deviation documentation.

     

    Develop electrical system one-line diagrams and conduct ship checks to validate as-built electrical system configurations on the USCGC Ice Breaker vessels.

    Required Skills

    Electrical Design experience of Power Generation and Naval Switchboard Control systems.

    Able to design and understand detailed electrical schematics

    Knowledge of Control Systems a Plus

    Knowledge of PLC systems and programming language a plus

    Current DoD Secret Security Clearance a plus; or the ability to obtain one

    25% travel

    Knowledge of U.S. Coast Guard Ice Breaker vessels Power and Propulsion Systems a Plus.

     

     

     

    Required Experience

    Five years’ experience providing design and engineering support for U.S. Coast Guard and Navy shipboard electrical generation and distribution systems and equipment, including conceptual designs for equipment back fits, ship alteration package development (design drawings and test procedures), and feasibility evaluations for proposed replacements of shipboard generators and switchboards.
