  • Responsibilities

    Under general supervision, provides a safe and secure environment for employees, patients and visitors by protecting ANTHC property against fire, theft, harm, vandalism, and illegal entry. The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Responds to and assists with medical emergencies, alarms and other security related occurrences; sounds alarm, calls police or fire department, and implements emergency procedures when appropriate or as required. Performs walking and vehicle patrols of all ANTHC campus buildings, grounds and parking lots. Conducts security surveillance on campus property; patrols buildings and grounds, checks doors and alarm systems, reports any unusual situations, and performs patient watches. Provides customer service to patients and visitors, provides information and assistance while controlling access to facilities and enforces visiting procedures within scope of authority. Warns violators of safety and security rules, and restrains persons engaging in hostile or criminal acts. Protects accident and crime scenes and secures evidence. Renders first-aid and Basic Life Support as a first responder. Records log entries and incident reports according to established department guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

     Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s) and politics.  Knowledge of basic security concepts and procedures.  Knowledge of safety, infection and quality control standards.  Skilled in administering first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency response procedures.  Skill in oral and written communication.  Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting deadlines.  Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.  Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of applications.  Ability to recognize and respond to emergency situations.  Ability to solve problems on an independent basis.  Ability to accurately receive and transmit information by radio, telephone or computer system.  Ability to translate observations and information into legible, complete and accurate reports.  Ability to perform multiple tasks rapidly and accurately under a crisis condition.  Ability to establish priorities and pass on information as needed.  Ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.

    Required Experience

    MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION A high school diploma or GED equivalent. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Non-supervisory – N/A MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION  Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under ANTHC’s insurance program. If personal automobile is used for ANTHC business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided.  Must possess Basic Life Support within 6 months of hire. PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION  Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Police Administration, or related field. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION  Previous security, law enforcement, or military experience. PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION N/A ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS  Must be a minimum of 21 years old due the ability of confiscating alcohol in performance of security duties.  Depending on the needs of the organization, some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas. WORKING CONDITIONS The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:  Must maintain physical health to effectively deal with stressful and potentially hazardous emergency situations. Must be able to successfully pass a FIT test.  Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds.  Must be able to sit, bend, and reach  ANMC is not a latex free facility; an employee should expect to work in an environment where latex may be present.  May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.  May be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations.

    WORKING CONDITIONS The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:  Must maintain physical health to effectively deal with stressful and potentially hazardous emergency situations. Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds.    ANMC is not a latex free facility; an employee should expect to work in an environment where latex may be present. Must be able to sit, bend, and reach. May encounter verbal abuse and/or combative customers or family members.
