    Required Skills

     

    The Environmental Program Manager is responsible for ensuring the Kenaitze Indian Tribe's environmental activities are in accordance with preserving traditional ecological knowledge and values and carrying out the Tribe's environmental policies and procedures, and community support and outreach. The Environmental Program Manager oversees all aspects of the Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP), an ongoing effort to mitigate the environmental impacts of the former Wildwood Air Force Station located on Kenai Native Association (KNA) property and adjacent properties.

     

    Ensure IGAP and NALEMP work plans are achieved, in accordance with approved budget, applicable laws and regulations.

    • Prepare timely completion and submission of all deliverables and applicable forms and reports for ETEP and NALEMP.
    • Update Tribal environmental policies and procedures, environmental ordinance, and enforcement procedures
    • Procure, oversee, and direct all necessary services, including engineering, excavation and disposal.
    • Manage and/or perform environmental assessments and environmental reviews for Tribal construction projects
    • Review environmental policies and projects, and permits affecting the area and coordinate the development of environmental awareness in community through Tribal newsletters, environmental training and education outreach activities for the Tribe.
    • Deliver educational activities during the Kenai Watershed Forum Youth Day Camps, incorporate water quality and invasive species activities, resource management and related career and education tracks.
    • Encourage recycling, provide information on recycling to Tribal offices, community, and Tribal Members
    • Participate in regular inter-agency meetings on Kenai area environmental issues including: City of Kenai Bluff Remediation, Kenai Watershed Forum (KWF), State Department of Transportation Cooper Landing Bypass and Kachemak Heritage Land Trust (KHTL)
    • Focus on supervising and training interns with a priority on projects for water pollution in the Kenai River Watershed to include human health issues such as bacteria found on beaches, effects on subsistence harvest.

      

    Required Experience

     

    Education

    • Bachelors degree in Environmental Sciences or related field or a combination of education and experience in a related field may be substituted for a degree.

     

    License/Certification

     

    • Must possess valid Alaska Driver's License and remain insurable under the Tribe's policy.
    • Microsoft Office Suite certification or obtained within six (6) months of hire.

     

    Special Skills

     

    • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to collect data and implement and maintain grant tracking
    • Ability to work independently
    • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends

     

    Preferred

     

    • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities.
