  • Responsibilities

     

    Manages and coordinates the administrative and service responsibilities of the Forensic Nursing Program including: direct patient services, supervision of the SANE team, community education. Grant management. Direct medical forensic services to patients after sexual assault, domestic violence, child maltreatment and strangulation.

    Required Skills

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Performs medical-forensic assessment, examination, patient care and documentation per the Forensic Nursing Program Policies and Procedures and Medical Standing Orders
    • Management of the funding grants, including: program development, goal achievement, progress reporting, budgets, communication with agencies and attendance at grant meetings
    • Maintain 24/7 coverage for patient care by managing the On-Call schedule for trained providers
    • Supervise the performance of the trained providers, including mentoring, clinical education, and facilitating quarterly team meetings for case review, quality assurance, and quality improvement
    • Develop and provide education regarding the medical forensic response to sexual assault, domestic violence, child maltreatment and strangulation
    • Supervise and assist community educators to develop and provide community outreach and education
    • Assist with the coordination of the Bering Strait Region Sexual Assault Response Team, including coordinating meetings and leading case review and quality improvement initiative, participate in the Child Advocacy Center Multidisciplinary Team
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    • Knowledge of the purpose and function of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) for Adult/Adolescent patients and the Multidisciplinary Team for pediatric patients
    • Knowledge of the current research in evidence-based treatment for patients with a history of sexual assault/abuse and domestic violence

    Required Experience

     

    Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred) in Nursing

     

    Experience

     

    • 4 year(s) in clinical nursing

     

    Certifications & Licensure

    • Alaska Registered Nurse ,Basic Life Support (ACLS, PALS preferred)
    • Attendance at the 40 hour Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training
    • Certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner- Adult/Adolescent within one year
    • Certification for Pediatric within 2 years
    • Certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner for Adults and Pediatrics preferred (SANE – A, SANE – P)
