  • Responsibilities

     

    Summary: Consult with patients to obtain basic medical history, assesses their condition, and suggests appropriate massage techniques based on their current health. Perform massage therapy techniques to control pain, reduce stress and promote relaxation in clinical setting. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within scope of practice. Provides support to the Wellness Center as needed to assist with day-to-day operations; and participates in Wellness Center and Community Health Department programs and activities.

     

     

     

    Required Skills

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

     

    Quality-team based care with the focus on the patient, family, and community. Provide routine massage therapy modalities and specialized services that fall within a Massage Therapist’s technical and educational scope of practice to patients.

     

    Adheres to ethical boundaries and performs the professional roles designed to protect both the patient and practitioner, and safeguards the therapeutic value of the relationship.

     

    Participates as an integral member of the health division in the provision of medical services by collaborating with other health professionals to provide the patient complete and comprehensive care; refers to complementary programs when available and appropriate.

     

    Consults a supervising or designated physician when any unfamiliar, uncommon, or unstable conditions arise; uses sound judgement and refuses care if massage therapy is contraindicated to protect the patient and therapist.

     

    Reviews with the patient the complete treatment history and suggest areas in which traditional healing practices and/or collaborative care are indicated. Focus will be holistic in nature with emphasis on prevention and health maintenance.

     

    Follows established protocol for patient referrals within and outside the Alaska Tribal Health system;

     

    Remains current in improvements in the field of practice and strives to incorporate those improvements into the program when appropriate, maintaining licensure and other credentials as required.

     

    Actively participates in KANA’s quality improvement activities.

     

    Monitors and shares necessary information to facilitate risk prevention activities with management. Participates in peer review sessions with other providers;

     

    Service

    Continually strives to improve patients’ experience and quality of care by focusing on key leverage points of access, continuity, team based care, clinical information systems, patient self-management, and community engagement;

     

     

    Represents KANA in a positive and respectful manner assisting in the promotion and maintenance of good public relations among staff, community groups, and professional organizations;

    Communicates effectively with patients, colleagues, subordinates, management, and other KANA staff; Practices meaningful customer service skills addressing patient and staff needs courteously and promptly; Must refrain from practices that could be considered more invasive traditional practices such as poking, body manipulation, body or tissue penetration of any kind, and genital contact.

     

     

    Promotes and maintains professional staff relationships;

     

     

    Stewardship Focuses on the economic aspects of our practice;

     

     

    Participates in and supports group decisions. Behaves in a manner consistent with group goals;

     

     

    Correctly documents entries and maintains patient charts as outlined in the KANA Medical Clinic policies and procedures;

     

     

    Attends all OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory compliance training as directed or required;

     

     

    Accurately and promptly provides coding, billing or other financial information to KANA billing and finance department and follows up insurance pre-authorizations as required or when requested;

     

     

    Works within the Contract Health Services budget to ensure financial stability; Manages multiple tasks including telephone, computer operations and in-person visits; Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities.     Required Experience

     

    Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    • Must be 18 years of age.
    • Graduate of an accredited post-secondary education school of massage therapy which requires the successful completion of at least 500 hours of supervised instruction.
    • Supply diploma or certificate of graduation with transcripts or holds current certification as a massage therapist from a national certification board or a national certification program.
    • State of Alaska Massage Therapy license; CPR Certified 2 years of relevant work experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of contemporary health practices and associated procedures.
