  • Responsibilities

     

    Provide primary, urgent, preventive and emergent health services in KANA clinics in village communities on Kodiak Island, including responding on an on-call basis for after hour emergencies. Care will be consistent with the highest recognized standards.

    Required Skills

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

     

    • Perform routine general medical and specialized duties for Alaska Natives and other patient populations served by KANA at a designated Village Clinic site.
    • Provide primary, urgent, preventive and emergent healthcare services including evaluation, treatment, and follow-up according to the technical and educational expertise and respective scope of practice, and under the direction of the KANA Medical Director.
    • Consult a supervising or designated physician when any unfamiliar, uncommon, or unstable conditions arise.
    • Remain current in improvements in the field of medicine and strive to incorporate those improvements into the program when appropriate, maintaining licensure and other credentials as required.
    • Provide health screening through prenatal, well-born and well child evaluations, immunizations and TB testing in cooperation with other providers.
    • Coordinate preventive dental program, and complete routine health testing, breast exams, blood pressure, etc.
    • Provide patient education, screening, and follow-up regarding STI's, family planning, and other health related conditions.
    • Monitor chronically ill patients, making home visits as necessary.
    • Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality for all patient information.
    • Maintain clinic equipment and supplies, insure a sanitary clinic environment.
    • Assist in the education of other Village Providers as directed including Field Follow-Ups, Post-Session Learning Needs and daily consulting as needed.
    • Correctly document entries and maintain patient charts as outlined in KANA policies and procedures.
    • Accurately and promptly provide coding, billing or other financial information and follow up insurance pre-authorizations as required or requested.
    • Work with Purchased and Referred Care staff to prioritize medical needs of patients and to ensure financial stability.
    • Provide after hours on-call health services.
    • Provide occasional itinerant coverage in other Kodiak Island village clinics as needed.
    • Participate in Village Response Team Program, attend meetings, participate in training and drills, and respond to emergencies.
    • Represent KANA in a positive and respectful manner assisting in the promotion and maintenance of good public relations among staff, community groups, and professional organizations;
    • Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, subordinates, management, and other KANA staff; practice meaningful customer service skills addressing patient and staff needs courteously and promptly.
    • Coordinate and participate in community outreach programs, serve on KANA committees, and prepare reports or other documentation as requested.
    • Attend all OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory compliance training as directed or required.
    • Manage simultaneously, multiple tasks including telephone, computer operations, and in-person visits.
    • May be required to drive an ambulance as part of the Village Response Team member responsibilities.
    • May be required to transport patients to the clinic or to the airfield; and transport mail and packages to the post office and/or airfield.

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Required Experience

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

     

    • High school diploma or equivalent; individuals selected for this position will be provided training that adheres to the CHAP Certification Board and state EMS guidelines for training, continuing education and certification. Satisfactory performance in CHAP Training leading to Certification. Current CHAP Certification preferred.
    • Experience serving as a solo provider in a remote community preferred.
    • Current Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
