    JOB SUMMARY Works in the employee health program for Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) under general supervision provides professional nursing services to accomplish the goals of the Occupational Health Program for ANTHC. Conducts health screenings, performs required testing, immunizations and documentation in support of the Occupational Health Program.

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Conducts health screenings of new employees to include health history, and verification of immunization status.

    Administers vaccinations, performs blood testing, N95 respirator fit testing, and performs TB SCREENINGS PER THE Employee Health protocols and standing orders.

    Acts as a consultant to Human Resources on health questionnaires, job placement, medical limitations and/or health risks to patients and coworkers.

    Working closely with Risk and Safety, Infection Control Program professionals, and The Joint Commission, follows-up on employees potentially exposed to communicable and infectious disease. 

    Participates with the design of occupational medical monitoring program for employees exposed to workplace physical and chemical hazards, including noise, lasers, respiratory hazards, and chemotherapy agents.

    Maintains the confidentiality of patient records and procedures. 

    Works closely with safety personnel within ANTHC divisions on occupational safety programs.   Acts as a consultant for employees who are missing time from work or who required job modifications due to either a workplace injury or a personal illness.

    Participates in the design of controls for injury/illness and health surveillance programs related to actual and potential hazards in the workplace and prepares reports as required. 

    Maintains employee health records as well as summaries and written reports required for employee illness/injury reporting, including OSHA records.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS  Knowledge of nursing science, principles, techniques, and procedures for the care of employees. Knowledge of healthcare terminology, anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease. Knowledge of professional protocols and practices in employee health. Knowledge of laws and regulations that govern occupational and environmental health and safety. Skilled in excellent customer service. Skilled in assessing and prioritizing multiple requests by employees.  Skilled in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with entire workforce. Skilled in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. Skilled in working effectively under stress, meeting deadlines and coordinating several simultaneous activities.

    Required Experience

    MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  Progressively responsible professional/exempt work experience and an Associate’s of Nursing degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Non-supervisory - None

    MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION Current registered nurse license in the State of Alaska and remain active with all annual licensing requirements Current Basic Life Support card required.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION N/A

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Occupational health or employee health nursing experience.   PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) preferred.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid driver’s license.

    WORKING CONDITIONS The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:  Must be able to lift approximately 50 pounds.    ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected. Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to do repetitive movements, such as bending and squatting.  May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.  Work involves the potential for exposure to infectious diseases.
