  • Responsibilities
    • Performs manual and clerical duties related to the preparation and shipment of customer samples, components and finished products mailed primarily through Fed Ex, UPS, USPS or other similar carrier. 
    • Maintain necessary files and documentation.  Utilizes small hand tools and operate scales, metering machines, etc. and primarily use hand trucks to move materials around. 
    • Typical shipping activities include:  checking goods against shipping documents and authorizations, packing goods for shipment according to specifications, preparing bills of lading, posting weight and shipping charges and attach information and shipping instructions on to boxes. 
    • May occasionally perform activities related to the receiving materials such as unpacking of goods; checking against bills of lading, packing slips, etc., identification and quantity; maintaining records of goods received; rejects damaged, excess or misdirected goods, routes material to inspection, stores or other destinations.
    • Requires operation of a forklift truck/PIV.
    • Work overtime as required.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Job requires ability to exert 20 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 lbs. of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
    • Hours: 7am to 3 pm.

    JOB DUTIES

    • Direct kitchen staff, ensuring tasks are finished in a timely manner, while maintaining a professional atmosphere.
    • Plan and submit monthly menus in accordance with nutritional and program guidelines, collaborating with Nutritionist, Wellness department, and others as needed.
    • Prepare, cook, and serve meals and snacks.
    • Ensure proper food handling requirements are met according to Serve Safe guidelines.
    • Maintain kitchen inventory and order supplies within budget guidelines.
    • Responsible for inventory, procurement, and delivery of food items and equipment.
    • Determine proper preparation to meet meal serving timelines.
    • Wash dishes and clean kitchen and kitchen equipment when necessary.
    • Coordinate and prepare meals/snack trays and specialty foods as directed for special events.
    • Maintain kitchen facility in compliance with federal and state regulations, including OSHA and DEC.
    • Stock food items on appropriate shelves with accurate labeling using the FIFO system, and ensure expired food items are disposed of as needed.
    • Ensure the daily, weekly, and monthly reporting logs are accurate regarding elder counts, number served and any requested services.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • Knowledge with food industry protocols and services.
    • Knowledgeable about food industry portion control, diabetic considerations, food restrictions, and intolerances.
    • Strong understanding and sensitivity to Alaska Native culture and lifestyle, with demonstrated experience working effectively with Alaska Native population.
    • Strong written, analytical, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
    • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants. 
    • Ability to keep accurate records and produce timely and accurate written reports.
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as required for HIPAA, other regulations and organization matters.
    • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, including outside contacts.
    • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.
