  • Responsibilities

    Press Operator Apprentice can set up, adjust,  operate, and maintain single or multi-color offset press to print single-color or two-color.  Review job specifications to determine the press setup according to the imposition of the run (sheet wise or work and turn).  Perform all make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates or installing cylinders, examine plates/cylinders for imperfections and checks for correct positioning of images, prepping blankets, adjusting tension and register etc.  Make necessary color corrections and/or press adjustments. Clean, lubricate, and maintain the press, making minor repairs and replacing worn or broken parts as required. Performs periodic maintenance recommended by the manufacturer.

    Requires knowledge of offset printing procedures, materials, equipment and safety requirements and skills to perform assignments.  Skill to read and understand job specifications to determine press set-up materials needed to run the job successfully.  Must have sufficient knowledge of press capabilities to determine the most approrpriate use of the press and corrective adjustments required to run efficiently.  Knowledge of the appropriate amount of packing pressure needed to obtain the proper printing pressure for the type of job being run.  Skill in use of micrometer to mount and align the printing plate correctly.  Skill in routine operational maintenance and minor repairs to equipment.  Ability to make adjustments to feeder and feed board (e.g., ability to adjust suctions and blast, front and side guides and the timing of the head stops).

    Ability to run an entry level press. 

  • Qualifications
    • Hold weekly department meetings with staff to disseminate project information, corrective action work orders, safety, and assess staff needs.
    • Responsible for assisting staff to become knowledgeable and compliant with The Joint Commission standards and reviews completed corrective action work orders.
    • Responsible for preparation and outcomes of performance improvement indicators regarding MHC maintenance and the Environment of Care and Life Safety regulations and standards throughout the Health Services system.
    • Manages online software programs for Water Management, Computerized Maintenance Management System, and other regulatory applications.
    • Collaborates closely with the Safety Officer, Infection Control Nurse, Compliance Officer, and other applicable staff members in the evaluation and performance improvement activities related to the Environment of Care and Life Safety standards as assigned by the Maintenance Program Manager.
    • Prepares written reports for the Facility Director regarding planned, active or closed out projects.
    • Acts as the Maintenance Program Manager in his/her absence.
    • Placed on an on-call schedule with the Maintenance Program Manager to respond to after hour Health Services emergencies.
    • Provides technical engineering skills and assessment for planning and management of capital improvements and serves as an alternate on the Maintenance and Improvement Resource Allocation Committee.
    • Acts as an alternate Maintenance program representative for the Environment of Care committee meetings.
    • Provide Project Management for Studies, Designs, and Construction as appointed.
    • Demonstrates, monitors, and holds all staff members accountable for a positive customer service attitude at all times.
    • Utilizes team building and problem solving skills in the on-going quality improvement initiatives.
