    The Grants Writer is responsible for preparing and writing proposals and applications to secure grant funding for KANA. Accountable for the overall planning, coordination, development, writing, and editing of grant proposals to ensure submission on or before deadlines.

    • Read and research funding opportunities that will assist KANA in achieving its mission. Complete written synapsis of grant opportunities and provide to pertinent division directors and program managers, along with notice of funding opportunity documents. Draft, edit, and prepare written funding applications including project narratives, program measures, goals, and grant-specific budgets with sufficient time to review and submit to the granting agency.
    • Write and edit narratives to ensure proposals are technically responsive and present the projects in the most favorable manner, including adherence to submission requirements and responsiveness to scoring criteria and priorities. Content should reflect the highest professional presentation of materials.
    • Meet with program managers and department directors to identify barriers and gaps in service delivery, proactively seek funding opportunities to reduce barriers and fill gaps, work collaboratively with staff to develop programs and grant applications. Advise staff on effective methods of presenting information in applications and proposals.
    • Monitor progress of grant applications, and meet proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and submission. Assign tasks, set internal deadlines, identify problems, and adjust assignments as necessary to resolve problems and complete grant applications by original planned date. Enter and upload grant application into online grant portals, as required by granting agency.
    • Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and review of previously submitted grant reviews.
    • Provide funding opportunity information to pertinent division directors and program managers, and work with staff to prepare proposals seeking funding for new and innovative programs which will enhance KANA’s ability to meet the needs of beneficiaries and the community.
    • Standardize and maintain routine grant submittal components and supporting documents. Keep in contact with granting agencies during their review of a submitted grant application in order to supply additional supportive material as needed.
    • Maintain up to date and accurate internal electronic grant files, maintain and update Grants Outlook calendar with accurate deadlines.
    • Review literature on funding available to identify additional public and private sources of program support.
    • Draft letters of support, board resolutions, Tribal resolutions, job descriptions and other official documents necessary for grant applications.
    • Build and maintain relationships with potential funders with intent of expanding KANA’s funding base and advancing KANA’s mission, vision, and goals.
    • Assist with review of written grant reports, and draft board reports as requested by supervisor.
    • Participate in health fairs, community events and meetings, engaging in activities and discussions related to individual community needs and barriers, as directed.
    • Coordinate and lead  post-award meetings with division directors, finance, and others necessary to review approved proposal. Provide internal technical assistance on capacity-building, projects, and resource development to staff.
    • Train and advise Program Managers in grant writing and management.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

     

    Required Experience

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in related field with a minimum of two (2) years successful experience in grant writing, proposal development, or directly similar work.
    • Highly organized with the ability to complete multiple projects simultaneously, work effectively under pressure, use independent judgement, and produce a quality work product.
    • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
