    Release of Information Representative - Full Time - Health Information Services (20181888) Tracking Code 20181888 Job Description JOB SUMMARY Under close supervision, ensures accessibility of patient record information to authorized users within the guidelines of HIPAA regulations, the Patient Privacy Act and ANMC policies and procedures. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Ensures accessibility of patient record information to authorized users under the guidelines of all federal and state regulations, and hospital policies and procedures. Responds to internal and external requests for release of information contained in patients' medical records, including patient, facility, state, federal and local authorities. Collaborates with management to ensure patient rights to inspect, amend and restrict access to protected health information. Organizes and maintains department. Assists in management of the release of medical information. Ensures ability to release and track all medical information and distributions. Records all incoming requests maintains electronic database. Ensures quality customer service and timely information delivery. Supports management, medical staff and corporate compliance and risk management departments to ensure protection of patient privacy and confidentiality and assure standards are met. Presents health records in court proceedings as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills Knowledge of release of information policies and procedures. Knowledge of HIPAA and JCAHO requirements. Knowledge of hospital environment. Knowledge of health information services policy and procedures. Knowledge of Patient Privacy Act. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in understanding medical records procedures and protocols. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees. Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. Required Experience MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION A High School Diploma or GED equivalency. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Six (6) months of medical office or hospital experience. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule. May be called out to work off-shift in emergency situations. MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires persistent repetitive movements of the hands, wrists and fingers and the ability to sit for long periods of time. May occasionally be exposed to infectious diseases. ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected. Must be able to lift at least 10 pounds.
