  • Responsibilities

    Under general direction, manages research projects for ANTHC. This may include administrative duties related to research ethics review, grant and contract management, and project tracking. In addition, it may include recruitment of human research participants, data collection, data management, data analysis, and presentation of research data. The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Works collaboratively with other research and clinical staff to ensure successful completion of research projects. Supports and provides training and guidance for Research Associates and other research staff as needed. Maintains tracking systems for research project management, research ethics approvals, and human research specimens. Supports submission of research protocols to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and tribal review committees. Responsible for overseeing recruitment of human research participants for research projects, including communication with other staff, creating and disseminating recruitment materials, and responding to questions about eligibility. Obtains informed consent from participants for research. Oversees data collection from human participants. Oversees specimen collection, storage, and management in studies where specimens are collected. Oversees data entry and data management for research projects, including developing templates in research databases to facilitate data entry. Performs preliminary data analysis. Prepares datasets for complex analysis by biostatisticians. Formats data for presentation or publication. Monitors and manages project budgets and contracts. Completes internal and external written and oral reports professionally and in a timely manner. Coordinates with ANTHC finance department to insure timely and accurate financial reporting. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills

    Knowledge of Alaska Tribal Health System, ANTHC, and Alaska Native culture(s) and politics.  Knowledge of research concepts and techniques.  Knowledge of public health principles.  Knowledge of the regulations for protection of human subjects in research.  Knowledge of computer programs used to manage research data and to analyze data.  Skill in managing multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meeting deadlines.  Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.  Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

    Required Experience

    MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Political Science, Economics, Public Affairs, Political Communications, Health Care Administration, Public Policy, Public Administration, Business, Rural Development, or Social Services. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Non-supervisory – Five (5) years professional work experience in health education, health related research, and/or health related program development, implementation and evaluation. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience. MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION  Acquire and maintain Human Subjects research training.
