    POSITION SUMMARY

     

    The candidate will also be responsible for providing technical and project leadership and supervision of a team of engineers responsible for Linux/Unix operations.

     

    The Sr. Linux/Unix Engineer will be responsible for implementing, and maintaining production and development environments for domestic and international operations. The Engineer will also be responsible to design, participate and lead enterprise level projects.

     

    Daily responsibilities will include Linux, UNIX, SAN and Backup system architecture, design, monitoring and performance tuning, Level 3 investigation and resolution of system problems. Must be able to Interact with multiple project teams and manage multiple projects.

     

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

     

    • Providing support of the enterprise Linux environment by working with other team members with responsibilities for design, maintenance, administration, and support of all Linux systems.
    • Recommend and devise implementation strategies for products that will enhance and support business objectives
    • Advise and architect the installation and configuration of software including operating system, patches, and 3rd party drivers
    • Advise and architect the installation and configuration of hardware including disk drives, network interfaces, memory, processors
    • Managing Unix to Linux Operating Systems migration
    • Develop Linux Scripts and utilities
    • Manage projects to remediate Linux/Unix security vulnerabilities
    • File systems, server builds and external SAN storage
    • Flexible work schedule 24x7 support duties,
    • Document and adhere to departmental standards and policies
    • Participate on project teams to provide guidance, support and architect server sol
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux/Unix, SAN and backup issues
    • Document and maintain server hardware standards
    • Maintain audit policies and procedures
    • Provide status and issue updates to managers and peers as required
    • Be available for issue resolution and assistance after hours
    • Design and supervise disaster recovery strategies
    • Assist in the automation and consolidation of processes
    • Assist in product evaluation that will simplify current / future environments

     

     

    Required Skills

    • 8+ years experience and proficiency with Linux environments including Red Hat, SuSe, CentOS, Ubuntu, Familiarity with Alama is a plus.
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience
    • 5+ years Experience with VMWare and virtualized environments.
    • 5+ Experience configuring mid-range storage (e.g. EMC VNX, Powerstore, NetApp, Pure Storage).
    • Ideal candidates will have experience working in a large distributed fast paced corporate environment.
    • The ideal candidate will be a self-starter but also needs to be able to work, motivate and be a technical team lead of Linux/Unix engineers.
    • Requires excellent communication skills with ability to state messages in a clear manner by using language that is easy for others to understand.   Able to explain programs, policies and procedures in language that is understood by others.
    • Must be able to modify communication style both formal and informal to match the appropriate level of the audience targeted.  Requires strong understanding of the impact of a message on the organization or customer. Able to write with the clarity and precision necessary for the work being performed.
