  • Responsibilities

    Under close supervision, the Intern will assist with work activities within the Division of Environmental Health and Engineering's (DEHE) Community Environment and Health program to support projects that impact community health in rural Alaska. Interns will perform duties that strengthen their knowledge and experience in the field of environmental health. This level of internship is designed for interns that are students midway into their college education.

    The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

     

    REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

    • Intern works with specific teams performing particular duties as required by the Community Environment and Health department. Intern will be under close supervision and will be responsible for completion of assignments both independently and in coordination with team members. Some of the work may involve observing and attending lectures and other training events.
    • Intern work should be meaningful to the intern’s development as well as valuable to the organization.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

    KNOWLEDGE OF;

    • Customer service concepts and practices
    • Computers and comfortable with their use, familiarity with standard Microsoft office suite of applications
    • General office or business etiquette

    • Strong communication, verbal and written
    • Problem solving
    • Managing own work and completing assignments on time

    Required Experience

    MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

    • Current college student in Environmental Health Program.

     

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

    • No experience required, this is a paid learning internship.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

    • Must be able to lift approximately 20 pounds.
    • Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
