    The Prospect Coordinator reports to the Director of Prospect Development and contributes to the management of information about APU’s donors and prospective donors with the goal of building lasting philanthropic relationships that benefit both the donor and the University. In partnership with development officers, and other key staff, Prospect Development provides information, knowledge, coordination, and tools that support the campus in achieving its fundraising goals. The unit identifies prospective donors, matches their interests to campus programs, and ensures that prioritized prospective donors are included in development officers’ portfolios. Prospect Development’s research informs prospect strategy, and its ongoing work helps development officers move prospective donors through stages of the fundraising cycle. 

     

    REQUIRED EDUCATION

    • Bachelor’s degree.

     

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    • 1 – 3 years of related work experience.

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Under the supervision of the director, works with development officers to identify, qualify, assess, rank, and prioritize donor prospects.
    • Conducts research on constituents utilizing a broad spectrum of external and internal resources to analyze and evaluate constituent’s financial capacity, philanthropic propensity, charitable interests, and potential connections and/or engagement opportunities with the university.
    • Produces thoughtful, in-depth, well-written profiles on prospects synthesized from the information gathered from the research process along with anecdotal information from university staff and/or volunteers to aid in the cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of donor prospects.
    • Reviews the results of quarterly wealth screening of new constituents and makes recommendations.
    • Monitors portfolios and makes recommendations for donor/prospect assignments.
    • Reviews the stage aging process in collaboration with development officer portfolios to track donors through the process of assignment, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
    • Adheres to related business processes, with the director, to ensure prospect portfolios contain mix of prospects at appropriate stages with up-to-date information.
    • Meets with development staff in order to gain an understanding of their goals, priorities and, with leadership from the director, advises them about identification, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to maximize fundraising effectiveness.
    • Ensures proposals for each development officer are entered into the database and runs proposal update reports as needed to track progress on fundraising goals.
    • Performs regular audits of the data to ensure accuracy of information.
    • Works with development officers to obtain complete constituent information, coordinates with other appropriate staff, and ensure accurate entry into the database.
    • Contributes to the integrity of the Raiser’s Edge database by entering biographical and financial information on constituent records appropriately and accurately.
    • In conjunction with the Advancement data services team, identifies timely and accurate information on deceased alumni and donors, updates records, and disseminates the information to appropriate offices across campus.
    • Monitors news alerts about university alumni and high net worth prospects, disseminating appropriate information to development officers and staff and updates constituent records as needed.
    • Provides support in compiling event invitation lists.
    • Regularly reviews and updates the policies and procedures in the prospect research training manual.
    • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the activities of the Office of Advancement.

     

    SKILLS

    • Working knowledge and understanding of fundraising and donor relations concepts, principles, techniques, procedures and practices.
    • Must work well in collaboration with others; an effective team member and team builder.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work, and independently manage multiple, diverse, and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
    • Ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest professional and ethical standards.
    • Experience utilizing a database of constituent records, Raiser’s Edge preferred.
    • Some level of computer literacy with experience in on-line research.
    • Knowledge of biographic, public record, business and financial information sources.
    • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel as well as Google documents to organize, format and present data.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to consistently produce well-written, professional communications.
    • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously while exercising critical thinking skills and good judgment.
    • Strong organizational abilities with superior attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong affinity with and commitment to the mission of Azusa Pacific University.

    COMPENSATION

    • Grade 6: $17.72-$23.03/hourly.
    • Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
