Prepares and converts paper documents into electronic images using electronic scanning technology. Ensur es the accurate and appropriate analysis of patients records. Processes and monitors the retrieval and return of off-site storage charts and microfilm. Responsibilities Maintains electronic medical records, paper chart records, microfiche, microfilms and CD Roms. Reconciles discharged patient records from inpatient and surgical services units. Prepares and converts paper documents into electronic images using electronic scanning technology. Conducts qualitative image review after scanning for consistency and accuracy of patients demographics. Performs equipment checks at the beginning of each shift to verify that the scanning equipment is all set. Operates scanners to produce high quality electronic images of documents. Troubleshoots any imaging problems, and reconciles any inaccurate indexing information. Identifies errors or issues with the ADT interface, communicating with the Health Information Management (HIM) application team and/or the specific vendor to work towards a fast resolution. Locates clinical data in all systems; queries record requestors to understand their needs and makes determination of how to best provide the requested data. Ensures availability of patient information during system downtimes, assisting clinicians when needed. Answers telephones promptly providing a high level of customer service. Updates patient information in the computer system as needed. Serves as the liaison between Health Information Management (HIM) and the storage vendor for the coordination of storage and retrieval process of charts and microfilm. Maintains daily workflow performance statistics. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others. Qualifications High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. One year of experience in Health Information Management with background in scanning and medical terminology preferred. Strong computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel. Prior experience with electronic health records preferred. Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
