Work Shift: Time Type: Full time Department: CC017935 Child Enrichment Summary Assists in providing a safe and enriching experience for the children enrolled, in accordance with the Child Enrichment Centers curriculum guide. Will be flexible, may be rotated from room to room to fill in any void left by another teacher, also assist on the playground, and the preparation of lunch and snacks every day. Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assists in ensuring a safe environment * Assists in guiding the children in understanding reasons for safety, must participate in at least one safety theme per quarter throughout the year. * Participates in a total of four safety programs with the children, sponsored by outside visitors within a twelve month period. * Will always be aware of all current and new emergency procedures as documented in the front of the safety, policy and procedures manual, and review child care regulations in the licensing book yearly. 2. Participates in activities and assists in supervision of the assigned group * Participates in pre-planned activities (weekly or monthly themes) interacting with their assigned group by carefully explaining everything, giving choices to the children that they can understand. * Will always be aware of the total group, ensures supervision of the group at all times during the day. * Will always follow the daily schedule in providing a balance of indoor and outdoor activities that are both children and staff initiated. * Uses developmentally appropriate materials and equipment. 3. Understands assigned group of children and their different developmental stages * Encourages the children to be creative and use their imaginations to stimulate their social and emotional development giving evidence of understanding their assigned group of children * Recognizes each child as a sensitive, thinking individual who sometimes have different moods that could call for adjustments in a day's activities. * Shows affection and nurturing through interaction with the assigned group of children, and all the other children in the center openly. * Will bring themselves down to the child's level and talk to the child directly after getting the child's attention without shouting across the room. 4. Maintains professional knowledge skills and appearance * Maintains high standards of professional ethics by showing enthusiasm about the children and what they are doing. * Participates actively in all training programs and reads professional literature verifying to the director at least 30 hours of continuing education. * Accepts direction, criticism, unusual pressures, handles differences of opinion and controls self in trying situations calmly and quietly. * Dresses in clothes that are clean and allows them to move quickly and easily. Avoid dangerous jewelry. 5. Performs related duties as assigned by the departmental director * Completes all items on a checklist appropriate to shift. * Promotes cooperative and congenial interpersonal relationships within the department among co-workers, parents,volunteers, students and visitors.
