Work Shift: Time Type: Full time Department: CC013200 Cardiovascular Surgery Summary A CCP is qualified by academic and clinical training to operate extra-corporeal perfusion (CPB) equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support the patients cardio-pulmonary functions. By monitoring necessary physiologic parameters during cardiopulmonary bypass, the perfusionist may be responsible for administration, on prescription, of blood products, anesthetic agents or drugs through the extracorporeal circuit. Description PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Conducts patient and procedural assessment. * Reviews the patient medical history and current medical data prior to implementing CPB. * Based on assessment, chooses appropriate equipment for construction of perfusion circuit. * Collaborates with members of the surgical team with regard to optimal patient care and anticipated needs. 2. Implements CPB. * Conducts extracorporeal perfusion safely exhibiting ability to integrate and respond to a variety of physiologic parameters * Implements interventions appropriate to emergency situations. * Assures a safe environment for conduct of CPB through verification of proper function of equipment and notifies appropriate person should intervention be required. * Completes required documentation related to CPB. 3. Evaluates patient response to CPB. * Appraises patients response to hemodilution hypothermia, anticoagulation, acid-base balance and I institutes remedial therapy when needed. * Responds appropriately to needs of surgeon to implement efficient surgical procedure. * Communicates efficiently with surgeons and team members any deviation from anticipated occurrences and responds appropriately. 4. Professional Performance * Actively participates in performance Improvement Activities (i.e. Perfusion Quality Assessment), evaluates data and measures outcomes. * Maintains availability for consultation and assistance to other healthcare team members where expertise in extracorporeal circulation might be required. * Maintains current certification in practice of clinical perfusion by meeting requirements of caseload and continuing education. * Maintains professional standards by keeping abreast of new perfusion and surgical techniques. * Attends hospital, local, regional and national conferences relating to perfusion and cardiac surgery. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS * Required - Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university - Field of Study: Biology, chemistry or related science EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS * Preferred - Pediatric experience preferred * Preferred - 2 years Preferred experience preferred CERTIFICATION / LICENSE / REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS * Required - Perfusionist License: (AR) (Candidate must possesss at time of hire) SKILL REQUIREMENTS * This position has no specific Skill requirements 8 hours ago - save job - original job Apply On Company Site
