    Health Science Academy Education Coordinator Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health-The Health Science Academy - Brooklyn, NY $40,000 - $46,000 a year The Health Science Academy (HSA) is a core program of the Arthur Ashe Institute for Urban Health, Inc. (AAIUH). HSA is a pipeline health science afterschool program serving students in grades 6-12 and our alumni. Founded in 1994, it is collaboration between AAIUH and SUNY Downstate Medical Center. HSA collaborates with public and parochial schools to offer academic health science enrichment out of school time (OST) programs to middle (during the school day at the schools) and high school students (afterschool at SUNY Downstate). In 2017/18 we served almost 250 students in these grades. The main pipeline component, the Academy, is HSAs 3-year (six semesters) program for high achieving high school students (sophomore-senior year) interested in health and science careers. Since 1994, HSA has served over 2,100 students in grades 6-12. Work schedule will include working on some evenings and Saturdays. Salary: $40,000-$46,000 commensurate with experience and education Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Works with the HSA Manager to teach health science courses and maintain an updated, standardized health science curriculum across the HSA pipeline * Recruits, trains and supervises interns and volunteers to assist in the day-to-day activities of HSA * Evaluates and monitors students performance and maintains students academic records using Excel and Filemaker * Facilitates various college prep workshops * Organizes and coordinates the Academy application process (e.g., recruitment, scheduling the parents orientation, scheduling interviews, overseeing the selection and notification process) for the incoming HSA cohort Qualifications: BA/BS degree with course work in the science (e.g., chemistry, biology), health sciences and/oreducation of students grades 6-12 (e.g., afterschool curriculum, STEM pre-college programs, youth development, public health), and teaching experience. Masters degree preferred. * Must have at least one year teaching experience with middle school and/or high school students, teaching science or health science * Knowledge of health disparities and public health issues regarding health science education * Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.Knowledge of statistical packages such as SPSS or SAS is a plus. * Ability to organize resources, establishing priorities, and make procedural decisions and judgments.
