Excellence - Respect - Honesty - Service Teamwork The Lab Courier provides courier service for Asante's entities and affiliates. Courier routes and job duties differ slightly between the TRCH campus and the RRMC campus. The Lab Courier prepares, delivers, and picks up medical reports, supplies, x-ray films, pharmaceuticals and lab specimens in client offices and other health care facilities. The Lab Courier's primary responsibility includes picking up and delivering medical reports, supplies, x-ray films, pharmaceuticals, money bags and lab specimens to client offices and other health care facilities in the area. Lab Couriers may need to learn up to 5 to 6 different routes and must follow a set schedule for each route in making deliveries and pick ups to and from clients in a specific timeframe to ensure specimen integrity and client satisfaction. In this role, it is important to handle specimens according to required procedures and to check specimens for spills and defects to ensure a correct transport environment for all sample types. This includes following organization and lab regulatory requirements for handling and disposing of infectious wastes and chemicals. Excellent organizational skills that ensure accuracy under adverse conditions (rapid pace, constant interruptions, handling multiple tasks simultaneously) is very important in this position. Lab Couriers work with minimum supervision and must be self-disciplined to get necessary results. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience: 3-6 month previous work experience is required. Possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License with proof of safe driving record for the past ten years and proof of insurance is also required for Laboratory and Hospice positions. Working Conditions: At both sites, this position requires the ability to frequently and repetitively lift items up to 20 pounds as a regular and vital part of the job. Heavier items (up to 40lbs) are lifted and transported on a less frequent basis. Those items include picking up and delivering centrifuges or boxes of supplies. The ability to bend, stretch, twist and perform other awkward physical movements is also required. To be placed in this position applicants must pass a physical functional screening.
