Position Summary
The Associate Director – Hematology, Oncology Data Sciences & Digital Health will serve as the strategic business leader for data science and digital health initiatives within a clinical-stage development program in the Hematology-Oncology portfolio. As a strategic partner to cross-functional Compound Development Teams (CDTs), the Associate Director will identify opportunities for data-driven decision-making and innovation in study design, execution, and capability building. The role requires close collaboration with clinical teams and functional partners—including Translational Research, Precision Medicine, Regulatory Affairs, Market Access, and Clinical Development—to implement end-to-end data science solutions that drive scientific and operational impact.
The successful candidate will lead matrixed teams, including technical data science groups (e.g., RWE analytics, AI/ML, data engineering), and evaluate external partnerships to incorporate emerging technologies and digital health solutions into clinical trials. Applications may include clinical phenotyping, medical imaging, and real-world evidence generation using advanced statistical methodologies and machine learning techniques (e.g., generative AI).
This role demands a strong foundation in drug development and data science methodologies, creativity to invent and customize solutions, and the ability to communicate and interpret scientific results with clarity and strategic foresight. You will be part of a dynamic, accomplished team supporting the development of novel medicines at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine – Hematology Oncology R&D.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with the cross-functional CDT to design and execute data science and digital health strategies to support clinical research objectives across the drug development lifecycle.
Advance data science solutions, using real world evidence (RWE), analysis of clinical trial data, clinical phenotyping, medical imaging and biomarker analysis as appropriate.
With internal and external teams, leverage advanced analytics, including statistical models, machine learning and Generative AI, to uncover insights from these complex datasets
Develop, manage and communicate Data Science strategies for CDT’s and internal governance processes, including the reporting requirements for both regulatory-grade and observational research.
Partner with external vendors and internal stakeholders to identify data needs and procure novel data sources for bespoke applications.
Collaborate with Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, and Commercial teams to identify opportunities for data-driven innovation.
Evaluate and implement digital health technologies (e.g., wearables, mobile apps, remote monitoring) to enhance patient engagement and improve data collection.
Oversee timelines, budgets, and deliverables for key data science and digital health initiatives.
Represent the company in scientific collaborations, conferences, and consortia focused on oncology data science and digital health.
Stay abreast of regulatory guidance and industry trends related to real world evidence (RWE) and digital health.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree (PhD, MD, or PharmD/MS) in a field experienced working with high-dimensional datasets (e.g., Data Science, Pharmacoepidemiology, Biostatistics, Outcomes Research, Public Health, Computer Science).
5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or healthcare analytics, with a focus on oncology and/or hematology.
Demonstrated proficiency in advanced analytical methodologies, including statistical modeling, biostatistics, machine learning or other relevant methods
Experience working with healthcare-related datasets, such as electronic health records (EHR), real world data (RWD), or genomics, with an understanding of their structure, limitations and applications to clinical research.
Robust understanding of the drug development process, including pre-clinical development, registrational clinical trials and regulatory frameworks for RWD/RWE and digital endpoints.
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with regulatory submissions and interactions, including the use of RWD/RWE to support regulatory decision-making.
Experience with research in the area of oncology.
Experience working with cross-functional teams to advance clinical trials in an R&D or Medical Affairs environment.
Demonstrated ability to develop and manage external partnerships and vendor relationships.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
$137,000 - $235,750
